Patrick Mahomes has been on a historic pace in the 2019 season, and the Kansas City Chiefs reigning MVP has every reason to be hyped for a chance to torch the Detroit Lions secondary.
Both the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions are undefeated entering their Week 4 matchup, but something has to give when Patrick Mahomes faces a defense without top cornerback Darius Slay. And they’re playing in a dome, no less.
Mahomes has already notched over 1,100 passing yards and 10 touchdowns through three weeks, and he’s on pace to best even his MVP-winning numbers from the 2018 season. He put on a clinic last week in the Chiefs close win over fellow MVP candidate Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, with his performance cementing Mahomes’ place as the game’s top player.
Judging by Mahomes’ pre-game speech to his teammates before the Lions game, it’s safe to say he’s pumped up to add to his incredible MVP resume in 2019.
Not only is Mahomes a brilliant quarterback who produces big plays at a higher rate than any other passer in the NFL, but he’s also widely respected by his teammates as a leader. He’s been a consummate professional on the field since his days at Texas Tech, and despite only being a third-year pro, he’s clearly taken the mantle as “The Guy” in the Chiefs locker room.
Who wouldn’t want to go to war for Mahomes after listening to him fire the team up? Mahomes leads by example in every way possible, and the Lions are about to witness the man’s greatness first hand in Week 4.
