Eagles should panic after Cowboys loss with critical month upcoming

Philadelphia Eagles

At 3-4 after their latest loss to the Dallas Cowboys, there is a reason to panic for the Philadelphia Eagles with a critical month coming up for the Birds.

The Philadelphia Eagles were a sexy pick to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIV this upcoming February. However, the Eagles find themselves at 3-4 on the year after getting embarrassed on the road by the Dallas Cowboys 37-10 on Sunday Night Football in Week 7. While losing to an archrival Dallas is one thing, Philadelphia’s upcoming schedule is another beast. It’s panic time.

The Eagles, who got pulverized by the Cowboys all night long, will have to face another physical team on the road in Week 8 when they travel up to Orchard Park to take on Sean McDermott’s 5-1 Buffalo Bills. Philadelphia shouldn’t be expected to win that one over the Bills.

In their first game in November, the Eagles will host a Chicago Bears team that will be desperate and clinging to their playoff livelihoods in the tough NFC North. Mitchell Trubisky has his issues at quarterback, but the Bears defense is no joke. The Eagles can win that game, but Chicago won’t be an easy out at Lincoln Financial Field.

After getting the Bears at home, the Eagles will go on their annual bye in Week 10. While one would think that they’ll benefit from going on bye, Philadelphia will face the Evil Empire New England Patriots at home in Week 11. Nobody wants to see the Patriots on their schedule, so the Eagles have that to look forward to.

In a little over a month from now, the Eagles will host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. Seattle might have lost today to the Baltimore Ravens, but we’ve seen a better and more consistent brand of football from the Pacific Northwest’s finest than what we’ve seen any point out of the Eagles this year.

But after that, it does ease up for the Eagles. In their final five games, they’ll play the New York Giants twice, the Washington Redskins the Miami Dolphins and host the Cowboys shortly before Christmas. While the Eagles have a shot at going 5-0 in their final five games, who’s to say they’ll even before up for the challenge by that point in the year?

In their four games, the Eagles will be lucky if they can go 2-2. That’ll bring them to 5-6 with five games remaining. While a 9-7 or even a 10-6 record could get them to the playoffs, the Eagles haven’t looked like a playoff team through their first seven games. They look more like 7-9 B.S. Is that what they’re destined to be? After getting humiliated by the Cowboys in primetime, perhaps?
