Drew Brees’ return helped the New Orleans Saints roll to their sixth straight win, and they continue to show that they are the best team in football each and every week.
The New Orleans Saints have done plenty of winning even without the services of Drew Brees, who has missed most of the season with a thumb injury. The future Hall-of-Famer returned to the lineup for the Saints today, and New Orleans didn’t miss a beat, rolling to a big win over the Arizona Cardinals to improve to 7-1.
Brees didn’t miss a step in his return to action, throwing for 373 yards and three touchdowns in an easy victory over the Cardinals. Michael Thomas was clearly thrilled to get Brees back in the lineup, catching 11 passes for 112 yards and a score, and the offense didn’t miss a beat without Alvin Kamara for a second straight game.
The New Orleans defense also did its part, bending but refusing to break against Kyler Murray, who couldn’t find a way to put the ball into the end zone for Arizona. The Saints sacked Murray three times and took advantage of an Arizona offense that was playing without David Johnson for a second straight week.
The effort was fantastic throughout for New Orleans, which has looked like the NFL’s best team (no offense to you Patriots fans). While New England hasn’t really played anyone of significance yet, the Saints have already scored big wins over Seattle, Chicago, and a red hot Arizona team as part of a five game winning streak to surge right towards the top of the NFC standings.
The Saints won four of those games without Brees, and now he is back to help the Saints continue their mission towards a second Super Bowl title in the Brees-Sean Payton era. The Pats and 49ers may be undefeated, but the Saints showed again today that they are the best team in the NFL without question.
