After weeks of not being sellers, the New York Jets have changed their stance and are now willing to trade Safety Jamal Adams. Will a deal get done before the deadline?
The New York Jets are shopping Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams on the brink of the trade deadline.
For weeks the Jets have been adamant that they would not be sellers ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline, but they appear to have shifted their stance as the 4PM deadline nears.
Rich Camini of ESPN NFL Nation, who covers the Jets, indicated that Adams was the hottest name on the market today.
It has further been reported that the Dallas Cowboys are in discussions with the Jets for the budding superstar, with NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport indicated that it would take ‘a lot’ to get the deal done. For his part, however, Adams has reportedly indicated that he would love to play for his hometown Cowboys. Several outlets have reported that other teams are in the running, but none have been specifically reported.
How likely a deal may be remains to be seen, however. Multiple sources have reported that the Jets asking price would supercede the deal the Steelers made for the Minkah Fitpatrick (which included a 1st, a 5th and a 6th) with the Dolphins last month.
While the Jets are saying that this is a team decision; all indications point to the fact that Adams requested this trade, and the Jets are merely trying to drum up as much interest as they can at this point.
The third year veteran is having a tremendous season, despite New York’s struggles. Coming off the heels of his first Pro Bowl February, Adams is well on his way to playing in the all star game again this winter.
The 6th overall pick in the 2017 draft, the 6’1″, 213lb former LSU Tiger has been a standout for the Jets in his young career. Most believed that the Jets would become sellers this week, but had long thought that Adams, along with DL Quinnen Williams and QB Sam Darnold would be untouchable for the Jets. As it may turn out, only two of those three were true.
