5 possible replacements for Jets coach Adam Gase

New York Jets

The New York Jets have been a catastrophe through nine weeks of Adam Gase’s first season as head coach, and this could very well be his only season as the team’s head coach.

At 1-7, the New York Jets are suddenly in contention for the No. 1 overall pick, even though they already have their quarterback of the future in last year’s No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold. Worse yet, the Jets are coming off of a loss to a blatantly taking AFC East rival that were seen as a slam dunk for the No. 1 pick, as they fell to the Miami Dolphins 26-18 in an ugly Week 9 defeat.

Things have gone from bad to worse for the Jets this season, as their win over the Dallas Cowboys is starting to look more and more like a fluke. Adam Gase’s press conference have rarely been a sight to behold, but he is starting to sound increasingly desperate. There’s a real chance that owner Woody Johnson decides he’s seen enough of the Gase sideshow in New York by the end of the season, and here are five possible replacements for a head coach who didn’t exactly endear himself as the Miami Dolphins leader in the 2018 season either.

Lincoln Riley

The Oklahoma Sooners head coach is a hot name on the market and was linked to teams like the Cleveland Browns last year before opting to stay in the college ranks. Lincoln Riley has coached two future No. 1 overall picks in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, so he could be the best possible option for Sam Darnold to take his game to the next level.

There’s something risky about hiring a young college coach, but it’s also exciting to take a flier on a guy like Riley, who would be the polar opposite of all the more standard coaches, such as Todd Bowles and Adam Gase, that the Jets have recently hired.
