Bills are going to make the playoffs without a quality win

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills picked up another win over a bad team and look destined to make the playoffs without beating a competitive team.

The Buffalo Bills are now 6-2 and firmly set in the AFC playoff picture.

The latest win came this afternoon over a Washington Redskins team starting a rookie quarterback in Dwayne Haskins. Even without the quarterback situation, the Redskins are terrible.

That has been the theme for the Bills so far this season. The team now has wins over the Redskins, New York Jets, New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins. That is basically a list of much of the top ten in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Bills didn’t get to pick the schedule. And to be fair, the 8-0 New England Patriots are getting plenty of hype with a similarly easy slate of games.

The two losses on the year have come against the Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles, respectively. Buffalo even had a chance to take down New England, so it’s not like they have only looked competent against the worst of the worst.

It will just be hard to get a gauge of how good the Bills actually are if the team gets into the postseason with a 10-6 and all the wins are against losing teams.

The Bills still have one more against the Jets and another against the Dolphins. That should get the team to eight wins. A matchup with the Denver Broncos should be win No. 9 and then the Bills should be able to take one of the four remaining games against the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, and the Patriots.

Once again, nothing the Bills can do about the schedule. They are still taking down NFL teams filled with world-class talent. And Ryan Fitzpatrick.

What the Bills need is a big win over the Ravens, Cowboys, or Patriots to gain some confidence and show that Buffalo isn’t just a pushover in January. A win over the Patriots would also keep the Bills in the AFC East race.

Next: Jaguars should stick with Gardnew Minshew at quarterback

Franchises like Buffalo could use a postseason berth to galvanize the fanbase and allow for some new faces to play in the postseason. The next step after that is actually winning a playoff game.
