Is Danny Amendola vs. the Broncos a sneaky-good fantasy play?

Denver Broncos, Fantasy Football

Danny Amendola just had double-digit fantasy points vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Can the Detroit Lions wide receiver be trusted vs. the Denver Broncos?

The Detroit Lions have nothing to play for but pride the rest of the way this football season. They are an atrocious 3-10-1 this season and have only won one game since September. Yet, there are always hidden gems to be found on a team as bad as the Lions when playing fantasy football. One guy who had success last week was wide receiver, Danny Amendola.

The Fantasy Footballers are torn on if you should feel confident about playing Amendola this week in fantasy if you absolutely have to. Jason Moore views Amendola as one of his two guys, along with wide receiver Chris Conley of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Andy Holloway, however, wants no part of Amendola this week on the road vs. the Denver Broncos.

The reason Holloway is so vehemently out on Amendola this week vs. Denver is that the Lions wide receiver never has back-to-back great games. Amendola had one of his three great games of the season last week vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home, but can’t be trusted on the road in Week 16.

As for Moore, the reason he likes Amendola to have another good fantasy game is because of how depleted the receiving corps is in Detroit. With Marvin Jones going on IR, that means it’s a lot of Kenny Golladay and Amendola for David Blough to throw the ball to. Neither Moore or Holloway are in on Blough, but if Matthew Stafford was able to return then that might change everything.

Stafford has been placed on season-ending IR, meaning the Lions’ franchise quarterback can’t return for the final two games of the season: at the Broncos and home vs. the Green Bay Packers in the season finale. Without a solid NFL starter back in the fold, that could mean fewer receptions and yards for a PPR-centric receiving such as Amendola in your fantasy lineup.

Let’s be real. If at this point you’re hoping that Amendola can be a godsend in the final week of the fantasy season, then you don’t deserve to win your fantasy league. He might be good for a big game here or there, but stick with a more reliable fantasy option if you can to bring home the championship on Monday night.
