Aaron Donald’s Los Angeles Rams were in the Super Bowl a year ago. After not making the playoffs, he knows the challenges of trying to get back to the game.
This time a year ago, Aaron Donald‘s Los Angeles Rams were playing in Super Bowl 53 against the New England Patriots. Though the Rams came up short in Atlanta, many people thought Los Angeles would be back in the mix to represent the NFC in 2020. But, the Rams didn’t even qualify for the NFC playoffs this year and it was harder than Donald thought it would be to get back to the Super Bowl, Donald told FanSided‘s Mark Carman on behalf of Snickers.
“We hold ourselves to such high standards now. It’s like we expect to be there now. Not making it and having the season we had with a lot of ups and downs, not playing consistent football, that’s not us. We know we got to do better as players.”
The Rams won the NFC West the two previous years, after the arrival of head coach Sean McVay. However, it is the division-rival San Francisco 49ers representing the NFC in Super Bowl 54 this year. And it wasn’t that the Rams had a bad season by any means. They finished 9-7 overall, but that was only good enough for third place in the division.
With a young quarterback in Jared Goff, a strong head coach in McVay and a tremendous defense led by arguably the best player in football in Donald, there is a chance Los Angeles bounces back in 2020. Playing a third-place schedule will certainly help, but the NFC West has four really strong teams in it, as the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals are no slouches either.
Ultimately, Donald knows it’s about the work and will put in the time this offseason to hopefully have his team back in Super Bowl 55 next year in Tampa.
