Tom Brady, Patriots somehow find a way to make Super Bowl about themselves

New England Patriots, Super Bowl

The New England Patriots didn’t even win a playoff game this year, yet Tom Brady and his team found a way to make Super Bowl 54 about themselves.

Just because you won the Super Bowl last year doesn’t mean this year’s Super Bowl has to be all about you. Even though it was the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 54, we couldn’t help but be reminded that the New England Patriots are indeed a football team and they do exist. Of course, we’re talking about that Tom Brady Hulu ad.

It was a well-crafted cryptic message of Brady in a turtleneck either walking on or off, a football field that was sent out earlier in the week on social media.

Was Brady retiring or was he leaving the Patriots? The answer to both questions is a resounding “no”, as Brady wanted one-third of the United States of America that Hulu has live sports. We get it, and we’re not amused.

No, this wasn’t the first time the Patriots found a way to make the Super Bowl about themselves.

We saw Rob Gronkowski have an epic Miami beach party, one where Bill Belichick showed up in a festive shirt that could only be rivaled by the King of Hawaiian shirts in Andy Reid, you know, the head coach coaching in Super Bowl 54 on behalf of the AFC. It’s about him and not your rings.

Throw in that aggravating self-parking car commercial with Chris Evans, Rachel Dratch, John Krasinski and David Ortiz and we suffered more than our fair share of Massachusetts for the evening. We thought we were going to get a break from it this year. Well, we thought wrong and now we’re all mad about it. Here’s to making it about you once again, Brady and Patriots.
