Tom Brady should wait on the Saints in Free Agency

New Orleans Saints

Tom Brady has a lot of interesting choices in free agency, but the best move for the veteran quarterback would be to sign with the Saints.

Sean Payton has turned the Saints into one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL. Tom Brady should join the offensive guru to create a super team in New Orleans in 2020.

Clearly, Brady making that move would hinge on Drew Brees choosing to retire. The Saints are still waiting on word from their veteran signal caller. The Saints could always choose to re-sign Teddy Bridgewater if Brees does call it quits, but Brady represents a superior option for Payton and his coaching staff.

Moving to New Orleans also makes the most sense for Brady. Despite his recent free agency flirtations, a lot of NFL observers still believe he’ll return to New England for at least one more season.

The quality of weapons available to him with the Saints blows any offensive talent the Patriots possess out of the water. Michael Thomas is arguably the best wide receiver in football. He’d be the most talented wide receiver Brady ha ever had the opportunity to work with. Thomas is clearly a much better player than Julian Edelman who would be Brady’s best target in New England.

The presence of Alvin Kamara in the backfield should be even more attractive to Brady. His ability to break off big gains on the ground would soften up opposing defenses. More importantly, Kamara’s ability to be an elite pass catcher from the running back position would give Brady a luxury he’s never enjoyed in New England. Kamara would give him a safety valve on all plays while also serving as a deep option when called upon.

Some might suggest that Brady’s future would be better served by choosing a different team in free agency. Franchises like the Raiders or Chargers might offer him big money to inject life into their moribund rosters, but none of those teams are primed and ready to make a Super Bowl run.

Brady signing in New Orleans would immediately make the Saints strong Super Bowl favorites. There’s no reason for Brady to sign with a rebuilding team just to make big money at this stage in his career. The only way he should leave New England is to join a team even better positioned to win another Lombardi Trophy.

Next: Patriots, Rams and Chargers are Brady favorites

The Saints are a ready-made juggernaut just waiting for a Hall of Fame quarterback to lead them to glory. If Brees does retire, Brady should ride into town and turn New Orleans into a super team. The thought of him working with Sean Payton is enough to keep opposing NFL defensive coordinators up at night.
