The Kansas City Chiefs are fresh off of a Super Bowl victory, and while fans are reveling in that the Chiefs front office has a lot of work to do this offseason.
The Kansas City Chiefs finally ended a 50-year Super Bowl drought thanks to their MVP quarterback and track team of an offense. Now general manager Brett Veach must turn his attention to how he can improve his team to get back to the promised land.
In the upcoming draft, the Chiefs only have five picks to work with. Even with the limited number of selections this year, Veach stands to add talent as he usually does, especially with his most-recent class which included Juan Thornhill, Mecole Hardman and Rashad Fenton.
Round 1 – Pick 32
Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson
One question looming over the Chiefs this offseason is what they’ll do with Sammy Watkins and his $21 million cap hit in 2020. Realistically, the Chiefs can’t afford to bring the receiver back at that number considering they still need to try and re-sign Chris Jones, and Patrick Mahomes is looking at a record-breaking payday.
The Chiefs finished the season with five active wide receivers so they may look to add depth at the position if Watkins and Demarcus Robinson don’t return to the team in 2020.
Tee Higgins out of Clemson would be a perfect fit for the team.
Higgins dominated secondaries the last two seasons across from Clemson teammate Justyn Ross. He finished the 2019 campaign with 59 receptions for 1,167 yards and 13 touchdowns. He doesn’t possess near the amount of speed the Chiefs are used to but he’s great at creating separation and at 6-feet 4, his size creates a matchup nightmare for most defensive backs.
Higgins would bring size and decent speed to a team that has plenty of speed to go around. He can be developed into a dependable WR2 for the Chiefs.
