Jets’ Quinnen Williams arrested with firearm at airport

New York Jets, NFL News

New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was reportedly arrested on Thursday night at LaGuardia Airport, trying to board an aircraft with a handgun.

This could prove an ugly night for Quinnen Williams and the New York Jets.

According to Andy Vasquez of NorthJersey.com, the second-year defensive tackle was arrested at LaGuardia Airport in New York City for attempting to board an aircraft while in possession of a firearm. It’s not known if the weapon was loaded.

Williams has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon by the Port Authority Police Department, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN. Cimini states the weapon in question does have a permit for Alabama, but that doesn’t hold merit in New York.

We will continue to update this story as more information comes in.

According to one resource, criminal possession of a weapon in New York is classified as a Class E felony and is punishable by up to 1-4 years in prison along with a possible $5,000 fine for a guilty party.

Williams, 22, was drafted third-overall by the Jets last April out of the University of Alabama. The Birmingham native spent three seasons with the Crimson Tide (including as a redshirt freshman in 2016) and notched 10 sacks, including eight as a redshirt-sophomore in 2018.

With New York, Williams appeared in 13 games as a rookie and totaled 28 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. The Jets finished 7-9 in the first year of head coach Adam Gase’s tenure with the club.
