Patrick Mahomes owns the AFC with Tom Brady leaving Patriots

Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Free Agency

With Tom Brady officially leaving the New England Patriots, the AFC officially belongs to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tom Brady announced via Twitter he will no longer be playing for the Patriots. All speculation has Brady landing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Los Angeles Chargers.

Wherever Brady lands, there has been a clear shift in power in the AFC.

The two powerhouse teams from last year, the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, seem poised to battle it out at the top for years to come under their star MVP quaterbacks.

But when you talk about the best quarterback and who runs the AFC, it falls on Patrick Mahomes. The young quarterback has only started two full seasons in the NFL and is already one of the faces of the league.

Mahomes has already won an NFL MVP, a Super Bowl and a Super Bowl MVP in two years as a starter. With mastermind head coach Andy Reid, they seem like the next dynasty if there’s one coming in the AFC.

Mahomes’ accuracy, passing touch, athleticism, pocket awareness, escapability, and ability to make improbable big plays in clutch moments were all on display in his amazing comeback victory in Super Bowl LIV.

Mahomes has the combination of all the traits needed to be the perfect NFL quarterback, and he’s only two years into his career and likely to continue getting better.

With New England now rebuilding to a degree for the first time in 20 years, Mahomes has a clear lane to dominating the conference for the foreseeable future.

Kansas City not only has Mahomes and Reid but a cavalcade of support around them in Tyrann Mathieu, Frank Clark, Chris Jones, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, Mitch Schwartz and others. The Chiefs also have Steve Spagnuolo and Eric Bieniemy on the sidelines. It’s borderline unfair.

The era of Mahomes is upon us.
