Antonio Brown may not have a realistic path to NFL reinstatement, but working out with Lamar Jackson and Marquise Brown will get plenty of attention.
Tom Brady may want to play with Antonio Brown after a one-game sample with the Patriots last year, which has fueled ample speculation about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signing the troubled wide receiver. But Buccaneers’ head coach Bruce Arians has roundly dismissed the idea.
Brown likely has a long path to NFL reinstatement, with no guarantees he will play in the league again. But it can’t hurt to stay ready, in case his situation clears up and teams surface with interest.
Brown has a cousin who plays in the league, Baltimore Ravens’ wide receiver Marquise Brown, so it makes sense they’d work out together in the offseason, even in this time of coronavirus social distancing.
On Wednesday, the younger Brown posted a photo of just such a workout on social media.
Marquise and Antonio Brown are apparently working out with Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson. That’s certainly interesting, but it’s safe to assume Marquise Brown just called on his quarterback to work out with him during this time of indefinite unorganized activity for NFL players. Inviting his cousin was probably natural.
The Ravens could be looking to add a wide receiver, but the list of free-agent options are now very thin. A flier on Brown might be palatable if there was any certainty with his situation.
If Brown was able to suit up this season, it’s unclear if any teams would invite the drama he inherently carries into an otherwise solid locker room. The Ravens seem to have that kind of locker room dynamic, and head coach Jim Harbaugh surely wouldn’t tolerate any antics from Brown for very long.
Brown and the Ravens are an interesting fit, if all things were equal. But don’t bet on them having any interest in him at any point in the foreseeable future.
