D.J. Fluker announces he’s been released by the Seahawks in heartfelt tweet

The Seattle Seahawks have released right guard D.J. Fluker according to a tweet from Fluker on Sunday.

Seahawks General Manager John Schneider has decided to part ways with their starting right guard. Danny Lee Jesus “D.J.” Fluker has been released by the Seahawks according to a tweet from Fluker on Sunday. The 29-year-old veteran has been a starter for the Seahawks the past two seasons. Fluker took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the transaction with the Seahawks fan base, tweeting his greeting to “Dear 12’s.”

“I was released by the Seahawks today. Couple of things: I am not upset, or hurt. This is a business and one that I’ve been in for a while. I want to thank John and [head coach] Pete [Carroll] for their very thoughtful calls,” Fluker tweeted. “Stay safe, be kind and I love y’all. Thank you, Seattle.”

This transaction is more than likely the Seahawks making room for rookie guard Damien Lewis, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson. Lewis, the former LSU Tiger, was drafted by the Seahawks in the third round.

“D.J. Fluker was one of the Seahawks’ best free-agent signings of the last few years and a highly-regarded presence in their locker room,” Henderson tweeted. “But his future in Seattle was seeming more and more iffy with their recent OL moves, especially drafting RG Damien Lewis in the third round.“

The former Alabama Crimson Tide athlete was drafted by the Chargers in 2013 as the 11th overall pick. He spent four seasons with the Chargers, 2013-16, before joining the New York Giants in 2017.

Fluker’s production on the field and as a leader in the Seahawks locker room should land him another gig quickly this offseason.
