Eagles need to sign Devonta Freeman and here’s why

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC East last season with a 9-7 record, but in order to fulfill their potential as Super Bowl contenders, they need to shore up their most glaring weakness on offense.

Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles squeaked into the playoffs by beating the rival Dallas Cowboys in Week 16 to seal the division with a 9-7 record. However, they could only muster nine points against the Seattle Seahawks, as they were bounced out of the Wild Card round in disappointing fashion.

The former Super Bowl champions have enough talent to make a deep playoff run in 2020-2021, but they will need one more star player on offense. Here are three reasons why Devonta Freeman can be a great addition to the Eagles offense.

He used to be one of the best three-down backs

Devonta Freeman is still available in free agency after the Atlanta Falcons replaced him with Todd Gurley, and while Freeman has his own injury questions to answer after a career-worst 2019 season following a season-ending injury in 2018, his past talent is hard to overlook.

Freeman used to be one of the league’s most well-rounded three-down backs. In both the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Freeman had at least 11 rushing touchdowns, 1,000 rushing yards, and 50 receptions. Not many running backs can say they ran for more than 10 touchdowns and 1,000 yards in a season while hauling in 70 passes, but Freeman is in that category of player.

So there’s no doubt that a healthy Freeman in a well-coached offense with other weapons can be a star in this league. At a bargain price with no long-term risk, why wouldn’t the Eagles want to potentially add someone who can help them pursue another ring?
