The most underrated Raiders in franchise history.
In the history of the Raiders franchise, there has been plenty of legendary players, some of which have landed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Since coming into existence back in 1960, the Silver and Black have won three Super Bowls, and have been a part of some of the more memorable games in league history.
While there are plenty of guys to wear the Silver and Black in the Hall of Fame, there is also an incredible number of elite players who have gone widely unrecognized. In team history, there have been players who are very underrated, and we dive into the top-10 here.
10. Underrated Raiders: Mervyn Fernandez, WR
This was a toss-up between ‘Swervin’ Mervyn Fernandez and Jerry Porter, two wide receivers who dominated during their time in the Silver and Black. I decided to give the nod to Fernandez because he was one of my favorite Raiders growing up, and I still consider him one of the better playmakers at wideout in team history.
Fernandez got his start in the CFL, where he would round into a Hall of Fame player, before landing in Los Angeles with the Raiders. Playing for the team for his entire six-year NFL career, Fernandez was a human highlight film, displaying big-play ability on a weekly basis.
Still the No. 9 wide receiver in team history in terms of receiving yards, Fernandez had his best season in 1989, when he racked up over 1,000 yards, becoming only the sixth Raiders wideout to accomplish that feat.
