The Ravens have their eyes on a Super Bowl title. To turn those dreams into reality, Baltimore needs the following five players to have great 2020 seasons.
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens took the NFL by storm in 2019 en route to a 14-2 regular season record. Unfortunately for fans in Baltimore, their team came up short in the playoffs in a disappointing divisional round loss to the Titans. It’s Super Bowl or bust for Jackson and his teammates in 2020.
John Harbaugh and his coaching staff don’t need to make massive changes heading into next season, but some subtle tweaks to the roster are required. In particular, the Ravens want to make sure they are better equipped to stop the run. That turned into the team’s Achilles heel during their painful loss to Tennessee in the postseason.
Even so, the Ravens can take comfort in the fact that they return the No. 1 scoring offense in the NFL. Baltimore wants Jackson to take fewer hits this year, but he’s still going to trigger their attack with his exceptional running ability. Rounding out the aerial attack to match the ground game will be a priority for the team’s coaching staff.
It’s important to remember that the team’s defense was also exceptional during last year’s regular season. They didn’t hold opponents to 17.6 points per game by accident. The Ravens can play better football up front though. Generating sacks and strengthening the run defense are both areas of opportunity for Baltimore in 2020.
To make those improvements, the Ravens will need career season from the following five players.
5. Ben Powers
Not enough attention is being paid to what the Ravens will do to fill Marshal Yanda’s spot on the offensive line. At the moment, Powers projects to be the team’s new starter at right guard. It’s imperative that he get up to speed quickly if this offense is going to achieve massive success again this season. They cannot afford for the guard position to suddenly become the chink in the team’s offensive armor.
