Green Bay Packers star wide receiver Davante Adams was unable to return to the team’s last-gasp loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and he may be suffering from turf toe.
There isn’t a player Aaron Rodgers relies on more than Davante Adams, who is the Green Bay Packers biggest spark on offense. Not only does he provide big plays, including two chunk gains of at least 40 yards on Thursday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles, but he also consistently gets open. Rodgers and Adams have one of the NFL’s most devastating connections, so if Adams is forced to miss any time, that could have huge consequences for Green Bay.
The Packers currently boast a 3-1 record, as the Eagles handed them their first loss of the season after an entertaining back-and-forth in primetime. Rodgers and Adams were the stars of the show for Green Bay, with the latter posting a career-high 180 receiving yards.
Adams’s career mark came in spite of the fact that he suffered a toe injury late in the game. He was clearly in pain on the sidelines and frustrated, as he attempted to enter the game but could not. Since Rodgers threw an interception in the end zone on an otherwise excellent night for him, perhaps the result would have been different if Adams played the full game.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Adams believes he is suffering from turf toe, which is no light matter. As Rapoport notes, this is a nagging injury that can trouble a skill position player for the entire season, and it could result in a multi-week absence for the player. Adams, per Rapoport, will visit Dr. Robert Anderson soon to get an official diagnosis.
The Packers have 10 days before they face the Dallas Cowboys, who have looked scary on both sides of the ball. They are even stronger Super Bowl contenders than Green Bay, given their success last season. If Adams cannot play against the Cowboys, that could result in another loss for the Packers.
Every game counts in the tight NFC North race, as the Chicago Bears are rebounding and the Detroit Lions are somehow still undefeated. Adams is averaging around 95 receiving yards per game after posting 111 receptions and 13 touchdowns in 2018, so, again, the Packers cannot afford to miss Rodgers’s best weapon, especially if the turf toe ails him for several weeks.
In the meantime, the Packers will need wideouts like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Geronimo Allison to step up. Both players are talented, but they’ll need to find that next level to their games in order to overcome Adams’s loss.
