Philadelphia Eagles rookie running back Miles Sanders finished the 2019 NFL season as the RB15 in fantasy. Will he make the leap to RB12 heading into 2020?
Though the Philadelphia Eagles’ season ended on Sunday night, there were several positive takeaways from their injury-riddled campaign. One player who really made the most of his expanded role and climbed up the depth chart was rookie running back Miles Sanders out of Penn State. He finished the year in fantasy football as RB15. Is he poised to crack the top-12 in 2020?
The Fantasy Footballers address this on their Tuesday episode. They believe RB12 is the right line to gauge where Sanders can get to in 2020. He’s likely to share a backfield with players like Jordan Howard and Boston Scott like he did this season. The guys compare him favorably to Austin Ekeler of the Los Angeles Chargers, a great No. 2 option to Melvin Gordon out there in the AFC West.

Andy Holloway doesn’t believe Sanders will crack the top-12 next season because he’s not going to get the carries and necessary touches to be an RB1 on your fantasy team, hence the importance of being RB12 in fantasy football. That being said, we do tend to see players pop in year two in the NFL. Running backs also have the quickest ascent to stardom in this league.
Mike Wright is in on Sanders becoming an RB12 next season. He saw enough out of Sanders in terms of his ability to get into the end zone in his rookie year to think he’s poised to take that next step in his NFL career. If Sanders becomes the featured back in the Eagles offense, then we can probably pencil him in as an RB12 for the next few years.
Jason Moore likes Sanders in dynasty leagues because he has produced so much already and has so much potential to get better. But he’s not sold on Sanders becoming an RB12 this upcoming season because he’s not sure how the start of the year will look for the Eagles offense. And by that, he means what happens if they upgrade over Howard in free agency or in the NFL Draft?
Ultimately, Sanders will be an important piece in all fantasy football leagues next season. He’s risen to the point where he’s a sure-fire starter and definitely a guy you can pencil in at RB2 or in the flex on your team. But if you think he’s going to be the guy to carry your offense from the RB1 position, you may need to wait and see how his sophomore season shakes out before going all-in.
