Deshaun Watson’s free agency dream of the Houston Texans signing Derrick Henry is the Tennessee Titans’ worst nightmare. But could it happen, though?
The more animus in football rivalries, the better.
Surely, the Tennessee Titans will do the logical thing by either tagging or signing superstar running back Derrick Henry. The 2015 Heisman Trophy winner emerged as the best running back in football in 2019, helping carry the No. 6-seeded Titans all the way to the AFC Championship.
However, it’s must be said signing a running back to a second deal is always a dangerous proposition . Very rarely does it end up working out for the team writing the checks. Even if the Titans plan to tag Henry in a few weeks, they can’t let him hit free agency. Otherwise, he’ll sign with another playoff-caliber team like. Perhaps the AFC South division rival Houston Texans?
Houston has one of the 10 best salary cap situations in football heading into the new league year. While they have a great Clemson connection in the passing game with quarterback Deshaun Watson and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, can you even imagine how dominant Houston would be if this trio were to unite?
For Houston, this is Watson’s wildest football dream. The guy who beat him out of the 2015 Heisman will join him in the Houston backfield. It would be the greatest thing to happen to Houston football since Earl Campbell was running over dudes Luv Ya Blue style in the early 1980s.
By adding Henry, Houston would have the best quarterback/running back/wide receiver trio in football. Tennessee would be devastated.
This is the Titans’ worst nightmare. They would have done this to themselves by letting him walk for nothing. Tennessee would deserve to get pulverized repeatedly by the battering-ram bell-cow that is Henry twice annually.
Houston would emerge strong and powerful in the AFC South, Tennessee would devolve into being weaker and powerless to stop the Texans. It’s not likely, but what a scenario.
