Patrick Mahomes, Chicago Bears tweet is cruel April Fool’s joke

Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs, NFL News

Patrick Mahomes famously was passed over by the Chicago Bears in the 2017 NFL Draft for Mitchell Trubisky, and one tweet savagely reminded us of that.

The Chicago Bears could have drafted Patrick Mahomes with the No. 2 overall pick in 2017.

You probably know this. You also know they took Mitchell Trubisky instead. Of course, with it being April Fool’s Day, someone is going to get the bad end of a great troll. This year, the Bears were the receivers from a phenomenal tweet by NFL Memes.

This is fantastic work. For starters, it genuinely looks like NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is walking to the podium way back when and announces Mahomes to the Windy City. For any Bears fan who can’t stop reliving this poor choice every time Trubisky drops back to pass, now there’s another visual component to chew on.

Of course, we don’t need to rehash the actual real-life consequences of this decision.

Trubisky has been a bust to this point, with general manager Ryan Pace trading for veteran Nick Foles to compete with him in training camp. Trubisky actually made the Pro Bowl in 2018 after helping Chicago win the NFC North with a 12-4 record, only to lose in the NFC Wild Card Game … to Foles.

Meanwhile, Mahomes looks like a generational talent in Kansas City. As a starter for two seasons, Mahomes has already earned an MVP trophy, throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns in 2018. Last year, the former Texas Tech star saw his numbers regress to mortal statistics, but the season ended with a Lombardi Trophy and Super Bowl MVP.

Imagine if that Twitter video was real. What a wild reality we would have lived out.

For Bears fans, if only. For Chiefs fans, the blessing of a lifetime.
