Jamal Adams is definitely highly sought after as he pushes for a trade, with the 49ers and Seahawks now pushing to the front of the line.

With no sign of a new contract on the horizon and his status as one of the best safeties in the NFL, Jamal Adams wants the New York Jets to trade him. The team does not seem compelled to move him though, with two years of contractual control remaining. But that surely isn’t stopping teams from calling about the two-time Pro Bowler.

Most of the other 31 teams can build a strong case to pursue a trade for Adams. The Dallas Cowboys are a popular landing spot, and they seem to be Adams’ preferred new team, but a couple of division rivals have entered the fray.

According to Rob Rang of SI.com, the Seattle Seahawks are among the teams who have inquired about the availability of Adams. Corbin Smith of SI.com added the San Francisco 49ers to the list of suitors while adding the Seahawks and 49ers have both had “preliminary discussions” with the Jets.

Will getting Jamal Adams be the NFC West tipping point?

Adams has a list of seven preferred destinations-the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cowboys, the 49ers, the Seahawks, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers added as an eighth shortly after. It’s noteworthy that the 49ers and Seahawks are both on that list, which may explain the recent engagement of the Jets by both teams.

It takes two to tango in trade talks. So if the Jets are willing to stand pat and let things play out any team that wants to engage has, and probably will continue to, hit a dead end. The asking price can and should be high. But it’s foolish to think multiple teams won’t be willing to meet it to secure the services of a 24-year old who is among the best at his position, as well as one of the best defensive players in the league.

Fantasy football has become the biggest staple to football season outside of the game itself. As we approach the middle of July, it’s time for drafters to start thinking about their hopeful teams and who they want to have their eyes on in their upcoming drafts. While many should expect Christian McCaffrey to be drafted at number one overall in their respective drafts, it’s what follows afterward that creates some thought and possible nervousness as they don’t want to place last in their league — again.

Thankfully, for the second year as part of the FanSided family, I am here to hopefully help you draft a team worthy of championship glory. The first round may not be where you struggle, but it’s the third, fourth, and fifth that can make or break your team all year. In this mock draft, we draft 10 teams in a five-round setting, attempting to follow a specific plan for each so that they can all present a unique result.

Also, discussing why certain players should be appreciated more than average draft positions and experts have them, based on specific trends and their numbers in the years prior. There’s no guarantee this mock draft necessarily brings you to the promised land. A lot of changes through the season and moves during the season can help, but if you don’t draft from your position well, you can wish that hopeful success goodbye and be on the receiving end of your league’s punishment for last place.

It’s been a good week for Patrick Mahomes.

Is there anything Patrick Mahomes isn’t good at? Days after signing the richest contract in sports history, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback showed he’s also pretty good on the links.

Mahomes was practicing ahead of his round at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe that begins on July 10, casually draining a putt that was reminiscent of someone on the PGA Tour. And while I’m excited to see Tiger Woods at next week’s Memorial Tournament, Mahomes may be able to hang with him for at least the front nine on a good day.

In addition to being the best quarterback in the NFL, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is also a great golfer, as he showed off sinking this insane putt.

Mahomes was a three-sport star at Whitehouse High School where it looked like he might follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a professional baseball career, but he was also the best basketball player on his team and, well, he was a pretty solid football player too.

As part of the mega-extension Mahomes signed that will lock him up with the Chiefs for the next 12 years when factoring the two years remaining on his rookie deal, he can’t do much physical activity until 2031.

Mahomes joked he can’t play basketball or do anything like ride a jet ski that could potentially leave the half-billion-dollar man with an injury. But golf is one of the safest sports Mahomes can still play. There’s no contact and it still satisfies that competitive desire all great athletes have.

With putts like this, you have to wonder if Mahomes could pick up golf as a serious hobby and make a run at participating in more Pro-Am tournaments like the ACC before going the Tony Romo route and trying to make the cut at tournaments and earn your tour card.

And wouldn’t you know it, Romo is the betting favorite to win this weekend?

It may be worth throwing a few bucks down on Mahomes because he’s never been afraid of being the underdog, and as he showed during the postseason last year, he’s pretty good when he falls behind early. So don’t be dismayed if he’s a few strokes off the lead after Friday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to make some personnel moves as early as 2020.

Once the 2020 league year opened up, the Pittsburgh Steelers watched as their rivals in the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals vastly improve, while they made small additions due to their scarce amount of cap space.

While the Steelers retained a majority of their players from last season, they need to look towards the future. With plenty of prominent young players to retain, some on Pittsburgh’s depth chart stand no chance of being kept for the long haul. These three athletes are most likely to pack their bags and depart from the Steel City as early as 2020.

Vance McDonald

The Steelers were so enticed by the play of Vance McDonald during his time with the San Francisco 49ers, they decided to flip a 2018 fourth-round draft pick back in ’17. His first season in Pittsburgh was far from exciting, but he truly exploded onto the scene in 2018. During that campaign, McDonald recorded 50 receptions for 610 yards and four touchdowns.

In 2019, McDonald failed to make it an encore performance. Through 14 games, McDonald caught 38 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns. Most of that can be attributed to the  revolving door at quarterback which consisted of Ben Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges. But, his play hasn’t lived up to the lucrative contract that he signed while he was a member of the 49ers.

You can tell the Steelers have already seen enough of McDonald, as they opted to sign former Indianapolis Colts tight end Eric Ebron back in March. McDonald will remain in the Steel City in 2020 as an insurance policy. But once the new league year hits, the Steelers can save $5.2 million in cap space by releasing him. That’s an easy decision for Pittsburgh.

Can Josh Allen finally break out for the Buffalo Bills in this critical season?

With Tom Brady leaving the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, high expectations were placed upon the Buffalo Bills to take over as AFC East Champions. This is a team that has a stacked defense that will make opposing quarterbacks quiver at the knees and added star receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason.

But there’s one question mark that can potentially hold back the Bills: quarterback Josh Allen. But given the amount of talent surrounding him, is this the year Allen finally earns himself a Pro Bowl nomination?

The Buffalo Bills need Josh Allen to make a big step up

Despite playing at Wyoming, Allen was a highly-touted prospect entering the 2018 NFL Draft. He had the prototypical build and hand size that team scouts gawked over, and boasted insane throwing power. But, he did have issues with accuracy, which became a divisive topic among draft experts. Some thought it was on him, while others believed it was due to his lackluster receivers.

No team loved Allen more than the Bills, as they looked to trade up at numerous occasions to select him. Luckily for them, the Buccaneers bit at their offer and received their franchise signal caller.

If there’s one bright spot to Allen’s game at the pro level, it’s his mobility. Through his first two seasons in the NFL, Allen rushed for 1,141 yards and 17 touchdowns on 198 carries (5.8 yards/attempt). He’s no Lamar Jackson, but he’s effective.

But when it comes to passing the ball, Allen has been frustrating to watch. In particular, we’re talking about placing the ball in his receivers hands. In 2018, 78 of his 320 pass attempts were deemed poor throws (25.7%), according to Pro Football Reference. Even with a “better” receiving corps this past season, Allen’s accuracy numbers were almost as bad. On 461 passes, 88 of them were determined to be bad (20.3%).

So in his rookie season, one out of every four throws were bad. In 2019, one-of-five Allen passes were uncatchable. Those are numbers you don’t want to see out of your starting quarterback.

For comparisons sake, Lamar Jackson (17.5%), Patrick Mahomes (18.3%), and even Sam Darnold (17.8%) had lower bad throw percentages than Allen.

Final decision

The addition of Diggs isn’t going to help Allen become a Pro Bowler if he can’t hit any of his receivers between the numbers. Allen can throw the ball as hard and as far as he wants, but it doesn’t matter if he single-handedly hinders Buffalo’s chances of clinching wins while on the field.

Until he finds a way to improve his accuracy, Allen shouldn’t expect a trip to the Pro Bowl following the 2020 regular season.

Who on the Seattle Seahawks will fly to another destination after the 2020 season?

The Seattle Seahawks were one yard away from clinching the NFC West crown in last year’s regular season finale against the San Francisco 49ers. Even though they earned a playoff berth, the Seahawks were still a flawed team, and saw plenty of roster turnover this past offseason due to their limited amount of cap space.

If they want to continue to contend for the foreseeable future, general manager John Schneider has some difficult decisions to make. No one in that locker room is safe for the next year, and these three players are most likely to be wished the best of luck in their future endeavors.

David Moore

Entering the 2020 season, the Seahawks receiving corps will be headed by Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, and David Moore. Yet, the latter’s future with the team already appears to be in flux.

Moore was a starter for the Seahawks in 2018, where he managed to haul in 26 receptions for 455 yards and five touchdowns on 53 targets. But last season, Moore was relegated to becoming a rotational receiver, where he only accumulated 301 yards and two scores.

This offseason, the Seahawks signed former New England Patriots wideout Phillip Dorsett to a one-year deal to round out their passing attack. However, rumors continue to circulate around a potential Antonio Brown signing. The embattled receiver has been out of the NFL since last September, but was seen working out with Seattle signal caller Russell Wilson recently.

If the team does bring “AB” in, Moore is going to be shown the door following the upcoming season.

The Kansas City Chiefs are going to be forced to make some tough moves following the 2020 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ plan went to perfection last season. The team was able to spend money on elite talent outside the quarterback position. Patrick Mahomes was still on his rookie deal and that meant financial flexibility.

That is obviously set to change quick after Mahomes signed his 10-year, $450 million extension. His cap hit is already set to jump from $5.3 million in 2020 to $24.8 million in 2021. Factor in Frank Clark’s deal, Tyrann Mathieu’s money, and a potential extension for Chris Jones and money is going to be tight.

The honeymoon period will soon be over for the Chiefs and the true reality of the future of the team will set in after the 2020 season. Let’s look at three players who may need to be let go just to stay under the cap in 2021.

Breeland Speaks

Breeland Speaks is a 2018 second-round draft pick by the Chiefs who did not appear in a single game during the 2019 season due to suspension and injury.

Speaks missed out on the excitement of the season and is now facing a crucial season in 2020 to prove himself. However, it may be too late for him in Kansas City.

The Chiefs can release Speaks before the 2021 season and save $1.3 million. This is not a monumental move for the Chiefs, but every dollar counts when trying to have the most efficient roster and remain under the salary cap.

It is also the final year of Speaks’ deal and cutting him for the savings is the obvious move if the team has no intention of signing him to an extension. The way his career has gone to this point seems to take away any confidence in an extension even being considered.

The Baltimore Ravens dominated the opposition throughout the 2019 regular season, looking like the favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl LIV. Yet, the team lost convincingly to the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Round to the surprise of everyone.

After licking their wounds, the Ravens bolstered their team throughout the offseason, and enter the 2020 campaign as the overwhelming favorites to win the AFC North. But, the organization still needs to build the team around quarterback Lamar Jackson, who’s still on his rookie contract. As they look to add perfect complements for him on both sides of the ball, there are bound to be players who are shown the door.

Here are three with the most likely odds to find a new home in the NFL in 2021.

Last year, the Ravens offense rivaled that of the Kansas City Chiefs in terms of explosiveness. Baltimore’s rushing attack was downright unstoppable….but we can’t say the same for the passing game. Plenty of that was due to the Ravens’ rather lackluster wide receiver corps, which ultimately led to their demise in the AFC Divisional Round against the underdog Titans.

The name near the top of the 2019 receivers depth chart was Willie Snead, and let’s preface by saying he’s not terrible. Through 16 games, Snead hauled in 31 passes for 339 yards and five touchdowns on 46 targets. Additionally, the veteran receiver only logged one dropped pass throughout the entire season.

It’s clear that the Ravens offense is in the midst of a complete overhaul. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is the team’s undisputed top wideout. Furthermore, the Ravens used two of their 2020 draft picks on wide receivers Devin Duvernay (Texas) and James Proche (SMU). It’s quite clear that Baltimore is looking to get younger and faster in the coming years, so that automatically rules out a return for Snead, who’s contract is up at the end of the upcoming season.

Raheem Mostert has asked for a trade, but the 49ers shouldn’t be forced into acting on the request.

With negotiations about a new contract apparently going nowhere, according to his agent Brett Tessler, San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert has asked for a trade.

Mostert has two years left on the three-year, $8.77 million extension he signed in March of 2019. He is set to make $2.575 million in base salary this year, and would like to be paid more like backfield mate Tevin Coleman ($4.55 million this year). So Mostert’s demands are not excessive, and he certainly has a case for a raise in pay.

Mostert had a breakthrough season in 2019, leading the 49ers with 772 rushing yards on a robust 5.6 yards per carry. In the NFC Championship Game he spearheaded a rushing attack that dominated the Green Bay Packers, with 29 carries for 220 yards and four touchdowns. Over the final eight games last year (including playoffs), he scored 11 rushing touchdowns while averaging 6.1 yards per carry.

49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan is one of the top offensive minds in the NFL today. In his system, with roots back to his father Mike’s offense as head coach of the Denver Broncos, running backs are set up to succeed. But Kyle’s best work may have come with a quarterback, when Nick Mullens made eight starts in place of an injured Jimmy Garoppolo in 2018. The then-undrafted rookie out Southern Miss averaged 8.3 yards per attempt and 12.9 yard per completion over that stretch. Scheme and play-calling over personnel at its finest.

The 49ers traded a running back this offseason, sending Matt Breida to the Miami Dolphins. But Coleman, Mostert, a possibly finally healthy Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson are still in the mix. McKinnon’s situation, with a torn ACL and setbacks preventing him from playing a game in two seasons since signing a four-year, $30 million deal, stands to make the 49ers hesitant to invest in Mostert.

A half-season sample is not enough to confirm that Mostert is a good running back, and the devaluation of the position (right or wrong) has to be noted. As NBC Sports Bay Area noted, Mostert’s base salary for 2020 is the 18th-highest among NFL running backs. So there’s an argument on the 49ers’ side that he’s already being paid like a starter, with two years left on his deal.

There’s nothing wrong with Mostert wanting to be paid more, and given the short shelf life of running backs he needs to maximize his window. But a trade wouldn’t really change anything unless a new team gave him a new contract right away, and there aren’t (or shouldn’t be) many teams that would do that.

The 49ers hold all the cards with Mostert, since any course of action he can take (the trade request, threatening and/or following through on a holdout) would not necessarily benefit him or would ultimately hurt him.

Unless a team comes with an offer that shouldn’t be refused (a third-round pick or more?), the 49ers can be content to keep Mostert this year with no fear of repercussions.

Ahkello Witherspoon

The 49ers are set to become a perennial powerhouse in the NFC. But to ensure that, they’ll have to retain some key players. Perhaps the most important is Richard Sherman, who’s the best player in San Francisco’s secondary. Somebody has to go, and nobody fits the bill more than Ahkello Witherspoon.

San Francisco selected Witherspoon in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and was immediately thrusted into the starting lineup. In the past two seasons, Witherspoon allowed quarterback completion percentages slightly above 50%, but he was exposed to the big play. Witherspoon surrendered seven touchdowns in 2018 and six scores this past year. That’s not ideal from your number two cornerback on the roster.

If Witherspoon doesn’t step up his play this upcoming season, you can fully expect the 49ers to replace him in the 2021 NFL Draft.
