EA Sports legendary football video game titled Madden has entertained gamers for nearly 32 years. Here’s a list that compile some of the best teams to ever play with on Madden. A few teams made playing with that squad nearly seem like a cheat code.

Madden 2004: Atlanta Falcons

There was nothing worse than playing Madden 2004 and having to play against someone using the Atlanta Falcons. It wasn’t necessarily because they had so many weapons on offense, more so they had a cheat code at quarterback. Anyone using Michael Vick pretty much had a created player with the highest speed ratings.

Vick was unstoppable on that game. When receivers were covered you had to stop Vick from scrambling. And when you brought the blitz, users playing with Vick could escape the rush or find a receiver open deep downfield.

Vick was the cover boy for a reason and posed at the time as the most dominant player in a video game. No wonder Madden 2005 put Ray Lewis on the cover, created a hit stick and for the first time made playing on defense addictive in a video game. This was all in effort to give folks a chance to stop the cheat code wearing a black and red No. 7 jersey.

Five potential Madden 22 cover stars.

For the game’s first 11 years, from 1990-2000, John Madden served as the cover star for the video game which bears his name. Beginning in 2001, however, EA Sports began using superstar athletes as the cover athletes for its’ marquee franchise, and who gets the nod is always a deeply-explored topic.

Since that time, the game has produced 22 iterations (20 seasons and two anniversary editions) and has featured a wide range of stars in the process (23 total). Those have included: five running backs, nine quarterbacks (including 2020 and 2021), six pass-catchers, and three defensive players. Only one year, 2010, has the game featured two athletes (safety Troy Polamalu and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald).

Now that we know that Lamar Jackson will be on the cover for 2021, we can begin to speculate about who may be the 2022 star who gets the nod. He follows 2020 Madden cover superstar Patrick Mahomes and makes for two consecutive quarterbacks and league MVPs to be selected (a rarity in Madden history).

Operating under the assumption that Madden will defer to history and attempt to diversify position groups featured, who may stand the best chance at the 2022 cover?

T5. Potential Madden 22 cover stars: George Kittle, TE, 49ers; Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs

Rob Gronkowski is the only tight end to ever make the cover of Madden, and he did so in 2017. However, since Gronk has ushered in a new era of pass-catching, playmaking tight end superstars, it stands to reason that the league’s two current best tight ends will merit consideration for the much-anticipation selection.

Travis Kelce is the only tight end in NFL history to record four consecutive 1000 yard seasons, and after winning Super Bowl LIV seems like a near-lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In addition, despite playing in a smaller market (relatively), he plays for one of the most prolific offenses in football, with the best quarterback in the game, and has already begun establishing a national platform with his reality dating television show, “Catching Kelce”.

Inversely, George Kittle appears to be better positioned to carry the public face of the position into the next decade (relative-youth and size of the market). Not only does Kittle hold the record for most yards in a season by a tight end; but will likely continue to play big stage games, as the San Francisco 49ers appear well-positioned to compete in the NFC for the years to come.

Given their both larger than life personalities, their load-share in their respective offenses, their duel performances on the game’s biggest stage and their pending, seemingly inevitable contract-extensions – we think either (or both?) could be considered among the favorites to land the honor for Madden 22.

Madden 21 is going to release its first look on June 1 for its fans.

The Madden franchise is inarguably the most successful of any sports video games created. It’s latest installment, Madden 21, is coming this summer.

However, the first look will drop on June 1, according to the EA Madden Twitter handle.

When is Madden 21 being released?

While we now know when the first look is coming down, the official release date of Madden 21 is unknown. It will likely be in August, as that’s when most of the games for this series have dropped in the past. When it does, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will be on the cover for the first time in his career.

While it has long been considered a curse to grace the Madden cover — much like the Sports Illustrated cover jinx — perhaps that was finally broken for good last season. Going into the year, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs was placed on Madden 20‘s cover, and he went on to win the Super Bowl.

For now, the best part about Madden dropping its first look is getting an idea of any changes the franchise yadeto its graphics, along with some new moves and subtle twists.

As always, gamers can order a copy before the game becomes available in stores. It can be bought online or in a store such as GameStop. Until then, NFL fans can play their Madden 20 and enjoy some training camp action — hopefully — before the start of a new season.

We may be a ways away from actual NFL football, but the annual release of Madden in late summer is very exciting. Fans of the gaming franchise are waiting with eager anticipation to get their hands on Madden NFL 21, which has yet to name its cover athlete.

Appearing on the cover of Madden may be cursed, but the curse didn’t impact Patrick Mahomes, who graced the cover last year as the Kansas City Chiefs won their first Super Bowl in 50 years and he won the Super Bowl MVP.

Let’s take a look at five NFL stars who could be on the Madden 21 cover this year, beginning with a running back who almost led his team to a surprise run to the Super Bowl last year.

5. Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans

Of all the names on this list, no one had a bigger coming out party in the 2019 NFL playoffs than Derrick Henry. A fine running back during the regular season, Henry took a star turn in January as he battered the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens over the first two rounds.

Tennessee’s run came to an end in Kansas City, but this could be a big opportunity for Henry to continue boosting his profile nationally. Considering the emphasis teams like the Titans, 49ers and Ravens put on the running game in the postseason, Henry could be a model cover athlete if Madden chooses to revamp their rushing mechanics for this year’s game.
