Daniel Jones has remade his body ahead of his sophomore year with the Giants.

After coming out of nowhere throughout the 2019 NFL Draft process, Daniel Jones – who played his college football at Duke – wound up being the sixth overall pick in that year’s draft. He was the second quarterback taken in that draft and the plan was to have him be the successor to Eli Manning.

Well, his rookie year ended up with him playing in a total of 13 games (12 starts) and throwing for 3,027 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. The biggest knock on Jones throughout the course of his rookie season was holding on to the football, losing 11 fumbles, which led the league.

Year two is a big one for Jones and he knows it. According to private quarterbacks trainer, Anthony Boone, Jones will look more cut-up, via Paul Schwartz of The Post.

“He’s done a good job of putting together a good physique,’’ Boone told Schwartz. “At the end of the day, he wanted to get stronger and get a little more meat on his bones but still maintain being able to run and move around and being on the field the whole time. Not ‘I’ve put on too much weight and I get short-winded now.’ His thing was make sure he could stay mobile, agile and be out on the field the whole time.’’

Quarterbacks don’t have to be as athletic and bulky as some of the other positions in the league, but it certainly couldn’t hurt. Jones added muscle to bulk up from 220 to 230 pounds, which matches players like Patrick Mahomes and fellow NFC East signal-caller Dak Prescott.

Jones knows even though this is only going to be his second year in the NFL it’s going to be a telling one for him. The Giants moved on from Manning in favor of him and hope he can be as successful as he was.

Teams tend to move on from quarterbacks more quickly these days if they don’t start to show something (looking at you, Josh Rosen), so if Jones continues to be careless with the football, the G-Men could be looking to move on from him after this year, especially with next year’s loaded draft class at quarterback where Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Trey Lance are projected to be high picks.

Adding weight should help Jones be more durable (he missed a few games due to injury last season) and that will go a long way in helping his team decide if he’s worth keeping around for the long-term.

Maybe fans will finally be treated to seeing Danny Dimes at his prime in 2020 and beyond.

Will Daniel Jones be a fantasy football superstar in the 2020 NFL season?

The New York Giants did not have a great football season last year. New York finished with the third-worst record in the NFC and ended up with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Giants drafted an All-American left tackle out of Georgia in Andrew Thomas. Will his arrival in New York help second-year quarterback Daniel Jones have a breakout 2020 fantasy football season?

Mike Wright of The Fantasy Footballers is very high on Jones having a breakout season in fantasy as a second-year player out of Duke University. His colleagues Andy Holloway and Jason Moore aren’t nearly as big of fans of Jones as Wright is, but they are willing to hear him out and see if he’s onto something with the Giants’ starting quarterback.

Check out The Fantasy Footballers for all their advice.

Had Jones started all 16 games for the Giants, he could have thrown for 32 passing touchdowns. This would have been a rookie record in the NFL, as no rookie quarterback has ever thrown for 30 in a given season. Despite his issues with fumbling the football, Jones still ended up with a top-10 fantasy season all-time for a rookie quarterback. Not bad for the former Duke Blue Devil.

Is Daniel Jones ready to be a star player in your fantasy football league?

[embedded content]

Wright also feels Jones’ legs are a huge fantasy asset. While he’s not going to run around as much or as effectively as Lamar Jackson does for the Baltimore Ravens, Wright believes Jones’ 20 rushing yards a game are enough to essentially offset one mistake he makes in a game from a fantasy perspective. He likens his mobility to what Alex Smith was for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Though he will have a first-time head coach in Joe Judge and a new offensive coordinator in Jason Garrett this year, Wright believes a healthy supporting cast around him will be key in Jones’ fantasy football assertion. If he has a healthy Saquon Barkley to hand the ball off to, things will change positively in his favor. The same thing applies to having a healthy receiving corps.

Next: How to navigate the turn in your 2020 snake draft

Last season, Jones only had four games where all three of his top-three wide receivers healthy for a ball game. Add in that most NFL players experience an up in play from the rookie year to their second year in the league and Jones could be an underrated fantasy football superstar in your league. He may not be your QB1, but he might be a good stash to have for your QB2.

Here are five reasons the New York Giants can win with Daniel Jones.

After a positive rookie season, Daniel Jones turned showers of boos into rounds of applause. He compiled 3,027 passing yards with 24 touchdowns throws in 13 games.

Jones sparked the New York Giants in his first start, and the little glimmer of hope that fans had for him became a pulsating beam as the season went on. He had a strong season for a rookie, but he will need to clean up his ball security. He’ll also need to become a better decision-maker in different coverages.

There is still much that Jones has to prove. However, as of right now, it appears that he can be the guy for the Giants, and the team can win with him under center.

Here are the five reasons the New York Giants can win games with Jones in 2020.

5. Confidence

Here is a cliché, yet relevant reason: Jones is confident, and that is half the battle for many professional athletes. He does not appear to overthink, which is a plus, especially if you’re playing professional sports for a New York franchise.

Having that confidence means a few things. Jones can forget negative plays quicker, trust in himself and his skill-set, and establish himself as a true leader. Having such a trait at his age is impressive, and it gains respect within a locker room.

Confidence is also contagious. Teammates feed off each other. If Jones can remain confident and convey that positive mindset to the rest of the team, that alone can help the Giants mold themselves back into winners.

In a time of question throughout the NFL, New York Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones steps up as a leader in support of Black Lives Matter.

Many athletes have been vocal following the recent protests in honor of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter. The NFL has remained in the news since it began, as their own players spoke out in a special video last week. The video included the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Saquon Barkley in a joint, unified video of support.

Barkley was the first to post the video on his personal Twitter page, and now his teammate is the latest to speak out about the Black Lives Matter situation.

Quarterback Daniel Jones will enter his second season as the Giants signal-caller and will certainly gain the trust of a lot of his teammates following his comments regarding Black Lives Matter:

“Those of you who know me well know that posting on social media is usually not my first instinct about how to express myself, and I felt that listening and talking with teammates and friends was important as a first step,” Jones said on his Twitter.

“I proudly stand beside my brothers and the entire black community in support of the Black Lives Matter movement to end systemic racism. I know this is complex, and I certainly don’t have all the answers, but I am determined and motivated to do what I can to ask the right questions and work with others to drive change on this issue. I acknowledge the fact that I will never truly understand how it feels to be on the receiving end of racial injustice, but I am committed to listening, learning, and taking action to stand up for others and make a difference in my community and in this country.”

Jones, unlike Drew Brees, showed the initial leadership needed during this fight against racial inequality. Not only does this help Jones moving forward, but will show to his team how much of a leader he truly is.

Pure class by the 23-year-old.

The New York Giants hope to be a surprise team in the NFC East.

It’s been an ugly last eight years for the New York Giants.

One playoff appearance, zero postseason victories. But with a new decade, and a new coach, comes renewed optimism.

Joe Judge has taken over on the sideline for Pat Shurmur, who spent two years chasing his tail. Judge inherits a seemingly overmatched general manager in Dave Gettleman but a roster with intriguing pieces on offense.

Running back Saquon Barkley is arguably the game’s best, and the receiving corps boosts a pair of young, talented men in Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard alongside veteran Golden Tate. The offensive line was also bolstered with the selection of left tackle Andrew Thomas with the fourth-overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Yet, the Giants’ fate rests on three things; Judge’s abilities, the defense improving and Daniel Jones.

Can the Giants battle with the Eagles and Cowboys in the NFC East?

Let’s start with Judge. After coaching the New England Patriots’ special teams for eight years, the 38-year-old has his first opportunity as the head man at any level. The COVID-19 pandemic isn’t helping matters, as Judge can’t spend time evaluating players at OTAs or minicamps. It’s a hurdle he’ll have to clear.

With the defense, there’s less hope. While the signing of cornerback James Bradberry helps, the secondary remains a mess. Bringing in Blake Martinez is an upgrade at linebacker, but only against the run. Looking at the depth chart, New York doesn’t have a single Pro Bowl-caliber talent.

However, hope resides in Jones. As a rookie, Jones started 12 games and posted 3,027 yards (6.6 YPA) with 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Jones also completed 61.9 percent of his throws despite constant pressure behind a leaky front.

If the Giants are going to be a surprise in the NFC East, it’s because Jones elevated his game to another stratosphere. A big step? Cut down significantly on the 18 fumbles.

New York likely won’t be a factor come Thanksgiving and beyond in the division. Both the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles have terrific rosters and proven quarterbacks with title-winning coaches on the sideline.

Yet, if Big Blue gets a good season from Jones and positive reviews for Judge, the 2020 season has been a success.

The clip shows when Chitwood makes a last second shot to win the 1952 Indiana state high school championship.
Manning altered his quote a little to fit his circumstances.

“To paraphrase Jimmy Chitwood, ‘I don’t know if it’ll make any change, but I figure it’s time for me to start playing social media,’” Manning tweeted.

After his first tweet, NFL Twitter exploded to welcome Manning with a variety of reactions.

Maybe the best of them all came from Tom Brady, who poked fun at Manning and himself with a retweet about how Eli – who pulled off game-winning drives to defeat the Patriots in both Super Bowl XLII and XLVI – “never showed up until the 4th quarter anyway.”

Manning’s new account also stirred nostalgia in Giants fans. ”Once a Giant, Always a Giant, Only a Giant,” Manning writes in his Twitter account’s bio.

When a Giants fans read Manning’s bio, his retirement feels hit home.

“Eli Manning made a Twitter this morning. Made the mistake of looking at his bio and now I’m crying again,” one account tweeted.

Manning officially retired earlier this year on January 24. He was a 4-time Pro Bowl quarterback. He was acquired by the New York Giants in 2004 whom traded for him right after Manning was drafted by the then San Diego Chargers. His defining moment was pulling off one of the biggest upsets in NFL history when he led a game-winning drive to win his first Super Bowl against the then 18-0 New England Patriots as he handed them their only loss that 2007 season.

Five free agents the New York Giants should sign.

In 2011, the New York Giants capped off a 9-7 season with an improbable win in Super Bowl XLVI over the New England Patriots. Since then, the franchise has missed the playoffs seven times in the past eight seasons. The lone exception was 2016 when under first-year head coach Ben McAdoo and the club finished 11-5 and captured a wild card berth. In the past three seasons, the team has gone through its share of sidelined leader and compiled a miserable 12-36 win-loss record.

So it starts over time once again for this proud franchise. The new head coach is Joe Judge, a longtime assistant with the New England Patriots. He inherits a club that made some strides last year but still only won four games. But the Giants are also in a division that has been less than scintillating in recent years and has been won by a 9-7 twice since 2015.

General manager Dave Gettleman added his share of veteran free agents this offseason. So which five players could this team sign over the next few weeks to give them a better chance at a winning campaign?

5. New York Giants free agent targets: James Ferentz, center

Familiarity will become a common theme throughout these choices.

According to the fine folks at Ourlads’ Scouting Services, the only performer listed at center on the New York Giants depth chart is Spencer Pulley. He’s played in a total of 17 games for the club the past two years and made nine of his 10 starts in 2018. As of now, the Giants have not opted to bring back Jon Halapio, who was in the opening lineup for all but one game in ’19.

So the team could use an experienced performer for depth or even challenge for a starting job at this position. Former New England Patriots pivot James Ferentz doesn’t necessarily have a lot of starting experience. But new head coach Joe Judge is familiar with the performer because he spent the last two seasons in Foxborough after stints with the Texans and Broncos. The 30-year-old pro played in a career-best 15 contests this past season and made a pair of starts for Bill Belichick’s squad.

The New York Giants have been around since 1925. Narrowing down the franchise’s all-time Mount Rushmore was a challenge, but here it is.

New York’s football scene has been rather one sided. The New York Giants have won eight championships in 96 years (1925-2020) of existence, and the franchise holds an all-time record of 696-608-33.

Many great players have played for this iconic club, like Y.A. Tittle, Frank Gifford, Phil Simms and Tiki Barber, among many other names. Of course, the franchise has also had significant coaches like Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, Steve Owen and Tom Coughlin.

Picking just four players for the Mount Rushmore of all-time greatness was tough. The first three fell into place rather easily, but there was a handful of players who could have been fourth.

So, we start with the honorable mentions. First, the team’s all-time rushing leader, Tiki Barber. His 10,449 career rushing yards have him well above Rodney Hampton’s second-place total of 6,897 yards. Barber is second in rushing scores (55) to Brandon Jacobs (60).

Barber was potent as a pass catcher too, and his 5,183 career receiving yards rank fourth all-time. He has the second-most receptions in franchise history with 586.

After Barber, Phil Simms and Frank Gifford both had strong resumes to consider for the fourth position. However, there will always be challenging omissions for franchises like the Giants. So, who did make the all-time Mount Rushmore?

Pat Shurmur’s final season with the New York Giants resulted in a 4-12 record. Joe Judge replaced him, and he will need these five players to be great in 2020.

When you only win four games the whole season, it indicates the roster needs improvement. A lot of it.

Dave Gettleman has been trying to achieve this task the best he can for the New York Giants. After a nice free agent period, followed by filling must needs via the draft, the Giants will need these five players to step up and be great this upcoming season.

5. James Bradberry, CB

Addressing the defense, especially the secondary, was a necessity for the Giants this offseason. In 2019, Gettleman used three draft picks on cornerbacks — Deandre Baker in the first, Julian Love in the fourth and then Corey Ballentine in round six.

Playing that many rookies, and having to trade a disgruntled veteran in Janoris Jenkins, meant the defense would get worse before it got better. In 2019, the team’s defense allowed the fifth-most passing yards (4,225 yards), eighth-most passing scores (30) and picked off just 10 passes.

Gettleman drafted in the secondary again this draft, but he also signed former Carolina Panthers corner James Bradberry to a large deal in free agency.

Bradberry inked his name on the dotted line with a three-year, $43.5 million deal this offseason. Around $32 million is guaranteed. That is a steep price and an expensive contract. One that needs to be proven worth the price in 2020.

Last year, Bradberry had a career-high three interceptions. He rated as a decent overall corner as well. He will add depth and experience to the team’s defensive back group.

For that reason, and his contract total, Bradberry needs to perform well in 2020. If he can play well, the rest of the secondary can fall into order.

If you want to know what the New York Giants’ offense will look like, ask head coach Joe Judge. It’ll look like the Dallas Cowboys. Is that a good thing?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

But what if imitation only yields failure? As New Found Glory once told us, “failure’s not flattering” and it feels like we’re at an all-time low for the New York Giants. This disaster we’re referring to is rookie head coach Joe Judge‘s decision to copy the Dallas Cowboys’ offense and bring it to the Big Apple. It may be his rookie year as a head coach, but it’s all downhill from here.

See, this is what happens when you hire the world’s greatest sideline percussionist in former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett to be your new offensive coordinator. You might have a top-seven offense every other year or even the best statistically in football like last season. However, it’ll be a lot of clapping, a lot of 8-8 and a lot of losses in primetime for the entire world to see.

In a conference call on Tuesday, Judge said the following about what his Giants offense will look like. “I think schematically the easiest way to describe [the offense] to the outside world right now is you know it’s going to be similarly based on what Jason’s done in Dallas. There’s going to be some similarities, but it’s got to cater to the players we have on our roster.”

Basically, what the former New England Patriots special teams coach is banking on is Garrett’s ability to turn second-year quarterback Daniel Jones into Dak Prescott. Though that may be possible, what people continually fail to realize was how transformative of a player Prescott was at Mississippi State. Jones was just kind of okay maybe while at Duke. That matters a ton.

“It’s a collection of what Jason’s put together throughout his career,” Judge said. “There’s going to be similarities in some regards to Daniel. I can’t tell you concrete-wise what that’s going to be. But there’s a lot of ‘cousin concepts’ in every offense.”

‘Cousin concepts’, now that’s a phrase.

Ultimately, the Giants had an excellent offensive coordinator last year, but too bad he was their head coach, Pat Shurmur. He’s one of the best in the business and he’ll help make Drew Lock a star this year with the Denver Broncos. Shurmur proved once again he didn’t have the personality to command the room and be a head coach. New York’s loss will be Denver’s gain.

Another reason Judge opted to bring Garrett over from a division rival is he stems from the same Nick Saban coaching tree. Judge served under the Alabama Crimson Tide head coach in 2009 to 2011 before arriving in New England. Garrett was on Saban’s Miami Dolphins staff over a decade ago.

“Once you work under somebody, you develop your style, but you borrow a lot from that person that you just left,” Judge said. “Whether it’s as simple as verbiage, terminology, you know, philosophies on route running, past protections, all those things there.

While we should appreciate the Giants attempting to cultivate an identity quickly under Judge, it is one that didn’t result in an NFC Championship game appearance in any of Garrett’s 13 years as an offensive coordinator or head coach of the Cowboys. So what are they trying to do here? What is the point in all this? Low-end stability?

The only way it works is if No. 4 overall pick Andrew Thomas becomes New York’s version of Tyron Smith at left tackle. Otherwise, “Danny Dimes” will scramble for his life like Fran Tarkenton did behind a wet paper bag of an offensive line. Like Shurmur, Tarkenton was better in Minnesota. Eli Manning‘s heir apparent isn’t going to Minneapolis anytime soon, so clap your hands.
