Jamal Adams is definitely highly sought after as he pushes for a trade, with the 49ers and Seahawks now pushing to the front of the line.

With no sign of a new contract on the horizon and his status as one of the best safeties in the NFL, Jamal Adams wants the New York Jets to trade him. The team does not seem compelled to move him though, with two years of contractual control remaining. But that surely isn’t stopping teams from calling about the two-time Pro Bowler.

Most of the other 31 teams can build a strong case to pursue a trade for Adams. The Dallas Cowboys are a popular landing spot, and they seem to be Adams’ preferred new team, but a couple of division rivals have entered the fray.

According to Rob Rang of SI.com, the Seattle Seahawks are among the teams who have inquired about the availability of Adams. Corbin Smith of SI.com added the San Francisco 49ers to the list of suitors while adding the Seahawks and 49ers have both had “preliminary discussions” with the Jets.

Will getting Jamal Adams be the NFC West tipping point?

Adams has a list of seven preferred destinations-the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cowboys, the 49ers, the Seahawks, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers added as an eighth shortly after. It’s noteworthy that the 49ers and Seahawks are both on that list, which may explain the recent engagement of the Jets by both teams.

It takes two to tango in trade talks. So if the Jets are willing to stand pat and let things play out any team that wants to engage has, and probably will continue to, hit a dead end. The asking price can and should be high. But it’s foolish to think multiple teams won’t be willing to meet it to secure the services of a 24-year old who is among the best at his position, as well as one of the best defensive players in the league.

Demaryius Thomas’ days as a No. 1 wide receiver are long gone, but he can still be valuable to the New York Jets.

At 32 years old, Demaryius Thomas has not garnered any interest on the free agent market this offseason. But he apparently wants to keep playing, and Connor Hughes of The Athletic (subscription required) has reported the New York Jets are “still talking” with the veteran wide receiver.

Thomas spent last season with the Jets, tallying 36 catches for 433 yards and one touchdown in 11 games. His peak from 2012-2016 with the Denver Broncos, when he topped 1,300 yards in the first four of those years as a primary target for Peyton Manning, is long gone. But for the Jets, a veteran wide receiver who has been around the block would carry intangible value.

Should the Jets sign Demaryius Thomas?

Jamison Crowder was the Jets’ leading receiver last year (78 receptions for 833 yards and six touchdowns), and he was the most trusted target for quarterback Sam Darnold. The team swapped Robby Anderson for Breshad Perriman in free agency, and drafted Denzel Mims in the second round of April’s draft. But beyond that top three wide receivers is a concern, with Vyncint Smith and Braxton Berrios occupying the final two spots on the depth chart right now.

Over nine games after Darnold returned from mono last year, Thomas had 31 receptions (on 47 targets) for 387 yards and a touchdown. Not the most robust numbers, but Thomas has that sample of history working with Darnold to go along with a role as a veteran mentor to Mims if he came back to the Jets.

Thomas is also within pretty easy range of a career milestone if he can find an opportunity to play this year, which looks like it’ll be the Jets or nowhere at this point. He is 237 yards away from becoming the 49th player in NFL history to reach 10,000 receiving yards.

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, one AFC East head coach she spoke with doesn’t think Newton will even be the starting quarterback for the Patriots when the season starts.

I spoke over text w/ an AFC East Head Coach on Cam Newton and the Patriots. “I think they are going to keep 3 QBs. Use Cam Newton perhaps as the wild card. I actually don’t see him starting Week 1 in the offense…I know one thing for a fact: the #Patriots love Jarrett Stidham”

— Dianna Russini (@diannaESPN) July 1, 2020

While Russini is just doing her job, this is precisely why the New England Patriots have won the AFC East 17 times in the last 19 years. During his two decades of dominance, Bill Belichick is a major reason the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets have run through head coaches like Larry King does wives. New England has made those three franchises look so stupid.

If there was a division you’d hear a quote like this emanating out of, it would be the AFC East -1000 if a Las Vegas sportsbook wanted to set a line for this kind of inherent dysfunction. By saying Newton’s not going to start Week 1, that means he’s going to start Week 1 and single-handedly destroy everything you hold sacred on the football field. Yes, Belichick is that petty.

Whether you want to call it an investigation or what it really is, a witch hunt, we’re absolutely going there in trying to find out which AFC East head coach was dumb enough to text that to Russini. Surely, that source has been burned after he’s now swimming in a pool of three. So which of these three amigos said it: Sean McDermott, Brian Flores or Adam Gase? We need to know!

Which AFC East coach doesn’t think Cam Newton will start Week 1?

Sean McDermott used to be on the Carolina Panthers’ coaching staff.

When Sean McDermott’s name comes up associated with this type of nonsense, the first thing you think of is to immediately cross his name off the list. His Buffalo Bills were, and still may be, the favorites to win the AFC East this year. What he and general manager Brandon Beane are building in Orchard Park has the potential to be something truly special.

One would think McDermott and his Bills are too focused on winning to worry about what the Patriots are doing. However, no team has been owned more shamelessly by the Patriots for the last two decades than the Bills. Buffalo going 0-for vs. New England is a Western New York rite of passage. Plus, let’s not forget where McDermott used to work before he came to Buffalo.

McDermott was the defensive coordinator under Ron Rivera with the Carolina Panthers. They are the former employer of both McDermott and Newton. While Newton was insanely talented, a hard worker and a likable guy, his reputation for being high maintenance and a lot of work have stuck with him throughout his 10-year NFL career out of Auburn. McDermott may have some thoughts.

Buffalo had every opportunity to bring Newton in as Josh Allen’s backup. They are of a similar Ben Roethlisberger prototype as starting quarterbacks. Yet, the Bills decided it’ll be either Matt Barkley or Jake Fromm who back up Allen this year and that’ll be good enough. McDermott and Leslie Frazier’s defense can game plan against Newton, but McDermott too smart to say this, right?

The Buffalo Bills should still be the favorites to win the AFC East in 2020

With Cam Newton signed, sealed and delivered to the New England Patriots, fans in Boston are already dreaming of another trip to the postseason and potentially to the Super Bowl. With all due respect to Newton, a former NFL MVP, are those fans kidding?

While there’s plenty of excitement surrounding Newton and his move to the AFC East, let’s not pretend like the Pats are immediately the favorites to once again bring home the division title. You simply can’t just write off the Buffalo Bills, folks.

FOX Sports radio host Colin Cowherd thinks Newton will help the Patriots win nine games and finish behind the Bills in the AFC East that suddenly could be a compelling race.

Injury concerns will surround Cam Newton throughout the season in New England

Are we forgetting that the Bills had an unreal campaign in 2019, and are only going to get better on offense after trading for stud receiver Stefon Diggs? Last fall, Buffalo shocked plenty of NFL fans, going 10-6 and earning a Wild Card spot. The Pats finished 12-4, of course, leading to their AFC East crown.

However, just because Newton is in town, that doesn’t mean New England is going to be as electric as we’re used to seeing. The big question mark surrounding Newton is if he’ll be able to stay healthy for a full season, something he hasn’t been able to accomplish since 2017.

There’s a reason the Pats only signed him to a one-year contract. With all of his injury concerns, there’s a worry he could get banged up again. If that’s the case and the Pats need to turn to presumed No. 2 quarterback Jarrett Stidham, there’s just no way New England will cruise to an AFC East title.

Regardless of who’s the starter for the Patriots, Buffalo only got stronger this offseason and is poised to send a strong message to the rest of the AFC this campaign. While Pats nation might be riding high right now with the Newton signing, Josh Allen, Devin Singletary, Diggs and others will be ready to silence them in the coming months.

As Jamal Adams seeks a new contract and a trade away from the Jets, a new theory makes a ton of sense.

In concert with his frustration over contract talks, Jamal Adams would like the New York Jets to trade. There is surely a market for one of the best safeties in the NFL, but the Jets don’t seem inclined to trade him or ink a new deal with Adams anytime soon.

Adams has a list of eight teams he would accept a trade to, perhaps even without a new contract.

The Jets’ asking price is high, as it should be really, but any team would have a strong case to meet it and get Adams.

When all is said and done, we’re not sure where Adams will end up. But if he does magically find his way to the Dallas Cowboys — a long-running expectation of how this all ends — the Giants may end up being the ones to blame for all of this.

Why Would Jamal Adams Want The Jets To Trade Him?

Via 247 Sports, ESPN NFL insider Jeff Darlington went on SportsCenter Saturday morning with a theory on Adams’ situation.

“His father, George Adams, who he is very close to was drafted by the New York Giants in 1985 as a first-round pick,” “The next year in training camp, after having a pretty solid rookie season, he suffered a severe hip injury that ultimately ended his career. George Adams has since had two hip replacement surgeries. He never got paid, essentially, the big dollars for his NFL career. Jamal Adams looks at that situation and says ‘I need to get paid as soon as I can because you never know when this game is taken away from you.’

On the Jets side of it, Jamal Adams does have two years remaining on his contract. It does feel early to pay a guy who is on a team-friendly deal at this point. You could see both sides. But certainly, when you add that personal side of the story with Jamal Adams, you start to understand why he’s so passionate and motivated to get that money.”

The idea Adams and Jets head coach Adam Gase don’t get along is convenient, with Gase naturally dismissing it recently. But general manager Joe Douglas was hired to be in concert with Gase, so the organization’s stance on Adams and trading him/giving him a new contract is naturally Gase’s too.

Adams deserves to become the highest-paid safety in the NFL when he gets his second contract. But his father’s story informs his feelings, and the sense of urgency to get paid that all football players feel.

Jamal Adams wants to be traded but the Jets still plan on keeping him.

June is traditionally a dead month in the NFL but the league has been buzzing about trade rumors involving Adams, a star safety on the Jets.

Adams has been unhappy about not getting a long term contract extension and recently submitted a list of eight teams he would like to play for to the organization.

That hasn’t fazed the Jets, who continue to insist they have no interest in trading their best player. Jets’ head coach Adam Gase, who reportedly has a sour relationship with Adams, was asked about whether he wanted Adams on the team next season and said the following.

“Yes, I want Jamal on our team.”

Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams also indicated his support for Adams recently while General Manager Joe Douglas has gone on record saying he wants Adams to be a Jet for life earlier in the offseason.

The whole situation comes down to the fact that Adams is sour about the fact that the organization hasn’t backed up Douglas’ words with a new contract offer. Adams is still playing out his rookie deal and will make $3.5 million in 2020, a bargain rate for one of the best defenders in football.

The problem that Adams runs into is that the Jets have all the leverage in potential contract negotiations. New York picked up Adams’ fifth-year option for 2021 and can put the franchise tag on him for 2022 if a long-term deal isn’t reached, meaning they can guarantee control over Adams’ rights for the next three seasons.

All of the teams on Adams’ list may also be hesitant to pay a safety top dollar, which is why he is trying to create his own leverage by indicating he would play for them without an extension. Even if one of the potential suitors was intrigued by this possibility they would still need to come up with a lucrative package to get the Jets to part with Adams.

Douglas notably fielded calls about Adams at the trade deadline, supposedly asking the Dallas Cowboys for a first-round pick and either Zack Martin or Tyron Smith, two of the NFL’s best offensive linemen. The price tag probably hasn’t dropped much for the Jets, who need a load of help and won’t move Adams unless they are clearly overwhelmed with an offer since they have the leverage in this situation.

It also is obvious that the Jets remain the team best equipped to pay Adams top dollar as soon as next season. New York’s cap sheet was a bit messy as Douglas tries to get out from under bad contracts handed out by his predecessor, Mike Maccagnan, which have led the Jets to eat a ton of dead money to get rid of underperforming players like Trumaine Johnson.

Add in the uncertainty of next year’s cap due to the pandemic’s impact on revenue and it explains why stars like Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson haven’t gotten extensions either. The Jets are still acting as if Adams will be a key part of their future and will pay him in due time, but unless they are given the steal of the century there is no reason for them to move Adams.

Jamal Adams isn’t happy in his current situation and wants a new deal and a new team. His defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, backs his decision.

It hasn’t been a secret this offseason that Jamal Adams wants out of New York. There have been trade rumors flying over the past few weeks with where Adams could end up playing in 2020 and beyond.

This all started because Adams wanted a new deal and made it known that not only did he want to be traded, but he wanted to play for the Dallas Cowboys.

Gregg Williams, Adams’ defensive coordinator in New York, is supportive of his star player’s decision and is optimistic about him returning to the Jets.

“I want him to feel good about everything that’s going on,” he said. “He knows when he gets inside the door and inside the white lines, there’s a chemistry that’s outstanding. I’ve been through this before with other players. You can’t get too emotional. I can’t. I’ve got to stay levelheaded with that and just know that I can’t wait to get a chance to coach him again.”

Adams is only 24 years old and is one of the best, young safeties in the league. The Jets have control over him through the 2021 season and then it wouldn’t be shocking if they slapped the franchise tag on him. Adams would like to avoid that scenario though. He’s played three solid seasons for the Jets and has only missed two starts in his career (with both of those missed starts coming this past season).

Williams was hired as the Jets defensive coordinator in 2019 after serving as the Browns interim head coach in 2018. After not getting the head coaching job in Cleveland (he seriously got beat out by Freddie Kitchens), he ended up in New York as their defensive coordinator and helped turn them into a top ten defense. It’s a no brainer why he wants Adams to stay with the Jets because he’s one of their brightest young stars.

Adams is an important player for the Jets, having been their first round pick (sixth overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft and being named All-Pro once in his young career. A big reason as to why Adams wants out of his current situation is because of head coach Adam Gase, who Adams does not respect and does not feel the team will ever win as long as he is in charge.

Jamal Adams has made his feelings public and he does not feel great about his current situation and Gregg Williams understands his frustrations, but definitely wants to see one of his best players stick with the team for the long-haul.

The Jets should definitely look to keep Adams around, but if he’s not happy there, Williams might have to accept that it’s best to let him play elsewhere.

Jamal Adams wants to be a Dallas Cowboy, and Jerry Jones should stop at no bounds to acquire him.

The greatest trade commodity in the NFL at this very moment is New York Jets safety Jamal Adams.

Although, to New York general manager Joe Douglas’ credit, he has not given in to Adams’ demands yet, even insisting that the Jets safety will remain under contract in green and white for the 2020 season.

As much as Douglas may insist that’s the case, it’s tough to buy it when Adams is willing to admit a random man at the grocery store he’s vying for a move to the Lone Star state.

Douglas’ negotiating ploy will keep the demands for a player of Adams’ services high, so much so he could be willing to ask for one of the Cowboys’ premiere assets in return even while he’s playing under a long-term contract.

According to Tony Pauline of The Draft Network, the Jets have eyes for star guard La’el Collins.

The Cowboys should make a Jamal Adams trade happen, even if it costs them La’el Collins.

Dealing a player of La’el Collins’ caliber would make such a trade far easier for the Cowboys, as they’d be able to keep much of their 2021 NFL Draft capital. Collins signed a five-year contract extension in 2019 which pays him $10 million per season.

Given his production since then, it’s an absolute bargain. Adams, meanwhile, needs a contract extension after the 2021 season, and is demanding so beforehand. Trading Collins would free up significant cash to make an extension attainable for the LSU product.

Just last season, Collins allowed just two sacks and committed only four penalties, despite playing 1,000 snaps, per PFF. Such numbers are unheard of, and perhaps taken for granted by the brass of Dallas’ front office.

The star-power gained from acquiring Adams surpasses that of an offensive lineman, and if we know anything about Jones, dealing for big names is his forte, despite his recent affinity for the offensive line through the NFL Draft.

Adams would be a clear upgrade over Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Jeff Heath. Dallas lost Byron Jones this offseason, and without sufficient cover in the secondary, will be exposed in the NFC. Meanwhile, they could replace Collins with moderate success with Connor Williams, who played tackle in college.

Losing a player of Collins’ caliber is not easy, but Dallas’ needs in the secondary are great enough to make this move, especially when it’s not paired with a first and third-round pick, which was the previous asking price for Adams.

The New York Jets-Jamal Adams drama isn’t over, but Adams himself thinks it is.

It’s a fact Jamal Adams has no longer has any interest in playing for the New York Jets.

It’s also a fact that he’s legally under contract with them for two more seasons. With no apparent momentum on the part of front Jets office boss Joe Douglas to hand him a fat contract extension, the prolific All-Pro safety can only control what he can control, right?

Well, to hear the man himself tell it on Monday, his tenure with Gang Green is already in the rearview.

Jamal Adams tweeted to Jets teammate Marcus Maye that “I’ma miss balling with u the most,” a suggestion he no longer considers himself a Jets player at all

(Say, does “U deserve everything coming your way” include that fake love Maye’s talking about? Hmmm.)

Emerging from the 2017 NFL Draft, the Jets surely thought they had the back end of their defense locked in for years to come with the addition of LSU strong safety Adams at No. 7 overall and Florida free safety Maye at No. 39. In short order, Adams was a Pro Bowler and arguably the most impactful safety in the game.

In just as short order, Adams is referring to his Jets employment in the past tense (and Maye has a troubling injury history after three NFL seasons).

And while a contract is a contract and the Jets have all the legal leverage here, it’s still hard to imagine them managing this standoff any worse. After all, Adams is almost certainly their most talented player. If anyone deserved special treatment, he did.

Nevertheless, here we are.

There’s no momentum for a potential trade to send the star safety to Dallas, but as long as he’s inventing his own reality, he may as well start looking for property in the Metroplex.

Perhaps to Adams, this is merely the power of positive thinking. Until an unforeseen breakthrough manifests itself, however, it’s just a big, stinking headache for the Jets.

This trade between the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers would turn the NFL upside down

Star New York Jets safety Jamal Adams continues to steal headlines, once again letting the organization know he wasn’t to leave for greener pastures.

Adams has come out and requested a trade, with numerous teams being featured on his desired list. It feels like only a matter of time before he’s eventually sent packing to a new city.

But, could there be a surprise team ready to give New York a call to strike up a deal? What about the Minnesota Vikings? Believe it or not, a blockbuster trade featuring both teams makes a ton of sense.

In this scenario, we’re drawing up a deal that would truly flip the NFL upside down: Jamal Adams Le’Veon Bell and a third-round pick to the Vikings in exchange for Dalvin Cook and Anthony Harris. While this might seem like the kind of exchange that belongs in a fantasy football league, both squads would benefit from such a move.

Why Vikings and Jets should trade Jamal Adams for Dalvin Cook

Adams clearly doesn’t want to be in town. Bell has stayed loyal to Jets fans, but he hasn’t lived up to the hype. He could use a change of scenery. As for Cook, he’s getting ready to hold out in Minnesota, with his relationship with the front office getting worse by the day.

Harris is set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, with it not looking likely he and the Vikes will be able to agree to a big-time extension. There’s drama involving all of these players mentioned. So, why not get them to new teams. A fresh start could benefit everyone, especially Adams and Cook.

Thank you to those who care about me outside of ball…
I appreciate the hell out of you.
Real Luv!

— Jamal Adams (@Prez) June 20, 2020

Only time will tell if Adams is given a new home. While he may want to go to Dallas, a move to Minnesota would get him into a position to compete for an NFC North title and head to the postseason. We’ll see if the respective general managers here decide to pick up the horn and make some magic happen.
