Raheem Mostert has demanded a trade out of San Francisco, but the Eagles don’t make much sense as a trade partner.

Despite signing his current three-year contract with the 49ers just last offseason, Raheem Mostert wants a raise to become the highest-paid running back on the team.

With the 49ers unlikely to oblige, Mostert has requested a trade out by the Bay, in hopes of landing a higher salary elsewhere.

While the Philadelphia Eagles could use some running back help behind Miles Sanders, Mostert doesn’t make much sense, as Philly wouldn’t be able to afford his cap hit in the years to come, especially if they give him a new deal.

Could the Philadelphia Eagles trade for Raheem Mostert?

In short, no way. One look at the Eagles future cap commitments shows they’re going to struggle in the short-term to add much talent to the roster.

Thanks in part to Carson Wentz’s massive deal, and a couple of other shortsighted contracts, Philadelphia is scheduled to be *reads twice* $50 million over the bar in 2021, per OverTheCap. No running back need is significant enough to justify spending money on when the Eagles are going to be in a position of cutting costs moving forward.

Mostert’s timing here isn’t the best, as any draft capital the 49ers recover, they can’t use until April of 2021. Not to mention, they’d very much rather have Mostert on the roster, as the likes of Tevin Coleman and Jalen Hurd leave much to be desired in the backfield. John Lynch has the cap room to give Mostert some of the raise he’s asking for.

In 2020, the 28-year-old is expected to make around $2.8 million. Per Ian Rapoport, his request is to be the highest-paid back on the team, which would put him at around $5 million per season.

The Eagles, for certain, are not in a position to give him that raise.

Jets rookie Denzel Mims made waves in the pre-draft process for his comments on Philadelphia, and now he’s doubling down.

Denzel Mims took himself out of the running as a potential Philadelphia Eagles draft pick thanks to some pre-April comments in which he said he’s scared of Philly. The City of Brotherly Love surely has some rough parts, just like any urban area, but to suggest he’s so scared he can’t play there is rather silly.

At the time, Mims said he wasn’t “familiar with the whole city, there was a lot going on, you see a lot of people that look scary. I’m not part of that. I don’t like that. I had a bad experience going up there that first time.”

Now on the Jets, the Baylor product didn’t back down when asked about his feelings towards Philly during a gaming session.

During a gaming session, New York Jets rookie Denzel Mims dropped some serious insults towards the city of Philadelphia.

Rather than select Mims, the Eagles opted to draft TCU’s Jalen Reagor, and considering the now-New York Jet is unapologetic for his comments, it’s for the better.

Leave it to Call of Duty to bring out the worst in people. The Jets and Eagles don’t even play in the same conference, but the proximity between the cities ought to make Mims a popular jeering target when the two teams finally do meet up. If there’s anything we’ve learned about Philadelphia sports fans over the years, it’s they they don’t forget their drudges.

Conveniently enough, the Jets had a matchup against the Eagles scheduled for the preseason. Unfortunately, though, that game was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the NFL cut the preseason in half.

Something tells me they’ll find another way to get their message across. Gritty, got anything?

Former Eagles defensive end Chris Long admitted he’d like to retire with the team

Standout defensive end Chris Long won’t be returning to the gridiron, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still think about the glory days often. The 6-3, 270-pounder was a monster in the trenches, enjoying a stellar 11-year career with the Rams, Patriots and Eagles.

Yet, Long has never had his official retirement ceremony. Of all the three organizations he suited up for, the question begs, which team will he choose to retire with?

“In Philly, it was like the city just got a hold of me. So if I ever do the official retirement, something, I’ll probably do it as an Eagle”

Chris Long helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl ever

Despite only suiting up for the Eagles for two seasons, the city of Philadelphia completely won Long over. Hard to blame him. Philly’s fanbase is known around the world for being one of the most wild, supportive groups out there. While the defensive end was in town, he saw that first hand and enjoyed every minute of it.

In Long’s first year with the Eagles, he helped the team win their first Super Bowl title in February of 2018. You better believe that’s still a special moment for him. He went on to explain, too, that he’d probably pick the Rams, but the team is now in LA and not St. Louis.

Long played for the Rams for eight campaigns, but all in St. Louis. He said retiring with a team in a different city just wouldn’t feel right. That’s why the Eagles have the advantage.

“In Philly, it was like the city just got ahold of me. So if I ever do the official retirement, something, I’ll probably do it as an Eagle.”

Chris Long on if he will “officially” retire from the NFL via @JClarkNBCS.

Hopefully something can done in the near future to make things official. Long clearly loves Philly, and it goes without saying, but the feeling is mutual.

Police have arrested the man who sucker punched Dallas Goedert in South Dakota

Over the weekend, disturbing news arrived from South Dakota, as it was revealed Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert was sucker punched by a random guy while he was having dinner with his family. Even more alarming, video of the incident showed Goedert taking a hard fall after he was hit.

Fortunately for the Eagles tight end, he didn’t suffer any serious injuries and isn’t expected to miss any time once Philly reports to camp. As for the guy who delivered that powerful punch, he’s already been arrested for his inexcusable behavior.

Kyle Douglas Hadala has been charged with assault after he punched Dallas Goedert

Aberdeen (South Dakota) Police announced on Monday Kyle Douglas Hadala has indeed been arrested for simple assault. A Floridian, Hadala was caught via a security tape hitting Goedert with a powerful right punch.

The Eagles tight end appeared to be knocked out after taking the blow. He was then taken to a local hospital, but was released shortly after. Goedert, who is from South Dakota and was a standout at South Dakota State, had been back home visiting his family before this unfortunate incident took place.

The 6-5, 255-pounder is getting ready for his third season in the NFL, all with the Eagles. In 2018, he posted 33 receptions for 334 yards and four touchdowns. He followed that up last fall with 58 catches for 607 yards and five scores. It really was a breakout campaign for him in 2019.

As the season went on, Goedert’s chemistry with Carson Wentz kept getting better and better. They’ll look to take things to new levels in 2020. As for the man who sucker punched Goedert, maybe next time he’ll think twice before making such a foolish mistake.

Dallas Goedert is no stranger to taking hits on the field, but the Eagles tight end never expected to be blindsided at dinner.

NFL players like Dallas Goedert are used to protecting themselves from danger on the field. Rarely does the same precautions need to be taken when going out in public. Unfortunately for Goedert, the punch he took at a South Dakota restaurant on Friday night proves that professional athletes can face significant danger off the field too.

The former South Dakota State star was eating at the Zoo Bar in Aberdeen, SD when he was punched out of nowhere by another patron. Goedert was sent to the hospital after being struck but was released without any concerns about long-term effects.

The recent emergence of video showing the punch makes it clear that Goedert was right to seek medical attention. He was given no opportunity to defend himself before the punch was thrown. Eagles officials should feel relieved that Goedert escaped the incident without any serious injuries.

There’s no evidence that Goedert did anything to escalate the incident, but the entire affair still serves as a cold reminder to NFL players about how careful they need to be when they are out in public. Their fame makes them targets for good and bad attention from people who find themselves in their presence.

Next: NFL Draft grades: Did Eagles do enough to help Carson Wentz?

The good news for Goedert and the Eagles is that the long-term results of this incident appear to be very minor. The player may be hesitant to go out in public again anytime soon, but the sucker punch he endured won’t have a significant impact on his playing career. He should still be ready to go when the 2020 NFL regular season begins.

Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery has been grinding this offseason

When healthy, veteran Philadelphia Eagles wideout Alshon Jeffery is the perfect partner for Carson Wentz. However, No. 17 has had his fair share of injuries while with the Eagles, including his season-ending foot injury in 2019.

Despite that tough luck, the former South Carolina standout is sitting on pins and needles waiting for his chance to get back on the gridiron and make plays in front of fans. He’s been on the grind this offseason trying to get his mind and body right, evidenced with the photo from a workout this week.

Alshon Jeffery has been training/rehabbing in the Midwest. No weight-room restrictions, expected to begin running soon. (📸 Steven Whitehead) pic.twitter.com/KxZnh4ULXp

Are we sure that’s Jeffery? Goodness, the 30-year-old wideout looks absolutely jacked these days. And of course if you love the Eagles, this is great to see. Clearly, Jeffery is fired up to silence all of his haters.

Alshon Jeffery is looking to silence his haters in 2020

Earlier in the offseason, there were countless folks out there who were calling for the wide receiver to be traded or released. With his dead cap hit of $26.1 million, though, cutting Jeffery was simply out of the question.

Looking ahead to the 2020 campaign, both Jeffery and DeSean Jackson are looking to bounce back with strong seasons. It goes without saying, but Wentz will be relying on the two heavily to get the offense going early and often.

DeSean Jackson just posted this video of him working out. Looks like he’s ready for next season. 🔥 pic.twitter.com/AIcuZb0I1I

Before going down with his foot injury last year, Jeffery caught 43 balls for 490 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games. What will he be able to do this fall and winter? Eagles Nation has high hopes for the athletic receiver. We’ll see if he’ll be able to deliver for them.

With the Philadelphia Eagles listed as one of Jamal Adams’ preferred destinations, here is what a trade for Adams could look like.

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams appears to want out. New York’s star has requested a trade and has given a list of seven potential teams he would like to be dealt to. Adams has grown increasingly frustrated with the Jets, as the third-year player is seeking a contract extension.

One of the teams reportedly on Adams’ list is the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have a void at safety this season after letting Malcolm Jenkins walk in free agency. Acquiring Adams would certainly fill that void, if not upgrade the position entirely.

Does Philadelphia have the assets to acquire someone of Adams’ caliber?

Let’s take a look at what a potential trade for Jamal Adams could look like for the Eagles:

Eagles Get

S Jamal Adams

Jets Get

S Rodney McLeod

CB Rasul Douglas

2021 First-Round Pick

Obviously, what the Jets want back in a trade for Adams in a first-round pick. If the Eagles want to acquire the 24-year-old, general manager Howie Roseman must be willing to part with that pick. Roseman, and Jets general manager Joe Douglas, have a working relationship from their time in Philadelphia. So, that is a plus for the Eagles if they would like to deal for Adams.

McLeod will be 30 when the season starts and has offered stability for the Eagles at free safety since 2016. The former Ram would provide a steady presence and veteran leadership for a young Jets’ defense.

Douglas has bounced in and out of the Eagles’ lineup since being drafted in 2017 out of West Virginia. He will only be 25 when the season starts and has shown a lot of upside. Douglas could be a nice young addition to the New York defense.

Obviously, Adams would fit right in as the star of the Eagles’ defense. He would fill the void left by Jenkins and without a doubt make an immediate impact. He would likely work next to Will Parks at safety and add another star to that defense with Darius Slay.

In terms of money, the Eagles would have no problem absorbing Adams’ $3.5 million in cap for 2020. He would account for $9.86 million in 2021, but that would only be if a contract extension would not be reached.

Trading for Adams would likely come with the demand for a new contract. There is no doubt that he will want to be paid as one of the highest-paid safeties in the league. For the 2020 season, Eddie Jackson of the Chicago Bears was the highest-paid safety, earning $14.6 million.

Adams will likely want to beat that number. So, if the Eagles traded for him, they would likely have to give him an extension in the four-year, $60 million range. Can the Eagles afford to pay him that much, in addition to giving up the assets they would?

In 2021, the Eagles are currently over the cap, so it would be difficult. While it would be a nice addition for Philadelphia, it’s hard to envision a scenario where they trade for Adams. Unfortunately for Eagles fans, the more likely scenario seems to be Adams heading to the rival Dallas Cowboys.

Doug Pederson’s reaction to Brandon Brooks tearing his Achilles is absolutely heartbreaking.

For the third time in three years, Brandon Brooks is going to miss time with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brooks tore his left Achilles tendon on Monday and will miss the entire 2020 season as a result. He confirmed the injury on Monday night and tried to remain in good spirits about it.

https://twitter.com/bbrooks_79/status/127267809603498804

But the true devastation came in the form of Doug Pederson talking about what the injury means moving forward. There are massive football implications to be discussed, but Pederson’s first thought wasn’t about what this means on the field. Rather, in his Tuesday press conference addressing the injury, Pederson couldn’t get past how truly awful Brooks’ injury is on a human level.

What did Doug Pederson say about Brandon Brooks’ injury?

Needless to say, Pederson was devastated by the news but mostly because of what Brooks has to go through yet again.

“My heart sunk when I got the news about Brandon’s injury,” Pederson said “We feel for him to have to go through this again.

As far as the plan, at this point, we’re still looking at a lot of options, starting with our own roster and the guys we have.”

This is the second time in three years that Brooks will miss time due to an Achilles injury, and his third major injury since 2018. He tore his Achilles in the Eagles Divisional Round playoff loss to the Saints, and was forced to miss his first-ever Pro Bowl appearance. Brooks dislocated his shoulder in the last game of the Eagles season in 2019 and will now have his entire 2020 wiped away with another Achilles tear.

Brooks has developed into one of the top guards in the NFL, and was a major piece of the Philly machine that won a Super Bowl in 2017. Losing him for the season is a blow on the field, but as Pederson highlighted it’s an even tougher thing to deal with aside from football.

With Brooks out for the season, the door appears to be open for Jason Peters to return to the Eagles and fill his spot.

Dak Prescott vs. Carson Wentz is a debate that will never grow old.

Quarterback debates are often the most heated discussions among NFL fans. Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady comes to mind. In the next decade, there may not be a fiercer debate than Dak Prescott vs. Carson Wentz, as there’s so much competitiveness between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles fan bases.

Wentz and Prescott are two franchise quarterbacks who are capable of winning Super Bowl rings and MVP awards, and both of them already have impressive resumes despite their youth. But based on the seasons they had last season, the advantage goes to Prescott.

Although Wentz was impressive with over 4,000 passing yards 27 passing touchdowns, and fewer than 10 interceptions, Prescott was one of the most statistically impressive quarterbacks in the NFL, leading a resurgent Cowboys offense in Michael Gallup’s second-year breakout campaign alongside Amari Cooper.

Prescott blew the rest of the NFC away, finishing with 4,902 passing yards. Jameis Winston had more, yes, but he also had more pass attempts and more than double the amount of interceptions.

But the comparison isn’t Prescott vs. Winston, of course. It’s the far more fair one between Prescott and Wentz, who will both rule the NFC East for years to come. (Assuming the Cowboys don’t mess it all up by failing to sign him to a long-term deal!)

Prescott blew away Wentz in almost every measure of quarterback play last season, except for the dreaded “QB Winz”. Despite throwing fewer attempts, Prescott had nearly 1,000 more passing yards, averaging 8.2 yards per pass attempt to Wentz’s rather paltry 6.7. So while Wentz threw three fewer interceptions, Prescott’s edge in touchdowns (30, a TD on five percent of his pass attempts) and massive advantage in yards per attempt make those three interceptions a non-issue.

There are areas in which Prescott could improve, of course. He didn’t have any fourth-quarter comebacks or game-winning drives, which may have actually played into the whole “QB Winz” disadvantage, seeing as how his Cowboys missed the playoffs after losing in Week 16 to Philadelphia.

Wentz, on the other hand, orchestrated four-game winning drives to tie conference-winning quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. But as a reminder of how flawed and arbitrary a “game-winning drive” can be, Ryan Fitzpatrick shockingly ended up with as many as Garoppolo and Wentz.

Prescott’s ability to create big plays with his arm, move the chains, and avoid making mistakes is incredible and puts him among the league’s best quarterbacks. He was fifth in intended air yards per pass attempt whereas Wentz was 18th (behind Mason Rudolph, even) due to a less downfield approach.

Despite averaging 1.5 more yards per pass attempt, Prescott was in the top 10 in percentage of throws on target. Wentz was 25th. Prescott’s higher completion percentage to Wentz’s was overshadowed by the fact that Prescott’s receivers dropped the second-highest percentage of passes of any passer in the NFL last season.

Next: A Patrick Mahomes extension won’t hurt Chiefs

Quietly, Prescott showed he has the total package as a franchise quarterback in running one of the league’s most electrifying passing attacks. Wentz is a good quarterback in his own right, but Prescott is on another level in terms of production. The Cowboys clearly need to pay him his worth.

Carson Wentz, who grew up not far from Minneapolis, has commented on the murder of George Floyd.

As protests continue in Minneapolis over the death of African-American resident George Floyd, modern day athletes from all walks of life have felt it necessary to comment on such a social dilemma, and one with deadly consequences.

Even Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who typically keeps his chatter to football-specific topics, was compelled to give his two cents on what has become the nation’s most compelling social issue, taking over even COVID-19 at times in the news cycle.

Wentz’s statement, which begins by acknowledging institutional racism in America, gives a realist take on the struggles of black citizens, and the inability of some in the white community to truly recognize these issues.

What did Carson Wentz say about the murder of George Floyd?

Wentz, originally from North Dakota, notes that he went the majority of his life without identifying with people of color. In fact, they were rarely around where he came from. But, his time in Philadelphia has taught him to relate to those he previously had no experience hearing out.

“All I know is that the institutional racism in this country breaks my heart and needs to stop,” Wentz said in a rambling message he posted to Twitter. “Can’t even fathom what the black community has to endure on a daily basis”.

S/O to Carson Wentz.. from North Dakota for finding a way to understand and speak up for his black teammates, coaches, etc who could all be hashtags..

I can think of plenty starting QBs who can’t seem to relate… pic.twitter.com/5rU6HBuLbs

— Maliik Obee (@MaliikObee) May 28, 2020

Commenting on topics like George Floyd’s murder requires a certain amount of nuance. It was a lot of words to say not a whole lot more than what has been said and Wentz fails to ask the most important question: What can someone in his position of power do to help create change?

However Wentz, who doesn’t shy away from noting how white and privileged he is, going out of his way to continue to bring attention to an unfamiliar topic to him deserves recognition.
