Chiefs rule out Patrick Mahomes for SNF against Packers

Kansas City Chiefs

Matt Moore will have to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to victory in Week 8, as Patrick Mahomes has been officially ruled out after suffering an injury on Thursday Night Football in Week 7.

When Patrick Mahomes went down with a knee injury against the rival Denver Broncos, it seemed like all hope was gone for the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes is the best player in the NFL, the reigning MVP, and the franchise savior who was one play away from leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl in just his first season as a starter.

But the Chiefs fought hard, stepped up on defense, and pulled off a courageous and convincing win in primetime over an AFC West foe.

A week later, and the Chiefs have clearly avoided the worst. Mahomes will be able to return in a matter of weeks and has already practiced on a limited basis, which is an absolutely remarkable feat that provides more evidence of a speedy return.

Still, the Chiefs know that being cautious with Mahomes is the best policy. He has been officially ruled out for Week 8’s matchup with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, meaning veteran backup Matt Moore will get a chance to show what he’s got to desperate teams around the NFL.

Because of his importance to the team, the Chiefs know to count their blessings and hold off on playing Mahomes until he’s 100-percent. Risking Mahomes’ long-term health would be foolish, and the Chiefs can become a more resilient team in his absence. If they do, they could be that much more dangerous when the winter comes.
