We have just one month’s worth of NFL regular season games before we have to start betting on playoff games. Let’s take advantage of the powder puffs while we still can.

We just got past an NFL week where the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins all won their games straight up. This was the killer of all parlays if we’ve ever seen one. Hopefully, most of you stuck to betting the Thanksgiving games and spent the rest of the weekend enjoying time with the family. It was a weird week, as many have been this season, but when the three worst teams in the league all win, it’s a better day for sports books than the people making those bets.

Week 14 is highlighted by three gigantic matchups, with the Saints taking on the 49ers, the Patriots welcoming the Chiefs to Foxborough, and the Seahawks and Rams building up a budding rivalry. The rest of the slate is all over the place, with bad teams facing good teams and other bad team matchups with nothing but pride on the line. It’s a weird year where the line in the sand between good and bad has been set, even if it took us a while to get here.

Realistically, there are the 12 teams that are already in playoff spots, then there are two NFC teams and three AFC teams still in the hunt. It’s the first week of December, and 15 teams are basically out of the race. That feels unprecedented.

This week, bets will be a little complicated with so many teams out of the race. There will be some unpredictability, but there are some ways to find the trends that could help you see into the future. We will look into those things to try and make the right picks this week.

Thursday Night Football

Dallas Cowboys (-3) at Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears offense is obviously still terrible despite a good performance on Thanksgiving. They beat a Detroit Lions team on their third-string quarterback. They still needed everything to win, as the Bears intercepted a pass on their own 10-yard line with 29 seconds left. It was a nice performance for Mitchell Trubisky, but it didn’t exactly instill confidence in his future. How do we see the Bears going through the motions of the season now that they’re basically out of it? We expect Matt Nagy to take more chances on offense, but that doesn’t exactly bode well since he’s missing some of the pieces to make it work.

The Dallas Cowboys also played on Thanksgiving with a much worse result. They were ceremoniously dismantled by the Buffalo Bills on their home field. With the NFC a certified tire fire, the Cowboys can still be in the race even if they lose the next two games. Still, there’s too much talent on this team to fall to the likes of the Bears, right?

The Cowboys are even money here, while a bet on the Bears will cost you -120. That, along with the fact that the Cowboys are still the better team make us go that way. It’s not a typical Thursday night game since both teams played on Thanksgiving. The Cowboys gain more yards per game than anyone in the league. We can’t see the Bears scoring enough points to keep up with them, even with that monster defense in tow.

Pick: Dallas (-3)
