Dak Prescott rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency

Dallas Cowboys, NFL Free Agency

Dak Prescott is one of the many talented quarterbacks to hit the free agent market this season, but which team would most benefit from his services?

There are few certainties in this NFL offseason, but one of them is that Dak Prescott will receive the franchise tag from the Dallas Cowboys. An ascending franchise quarterback in his prime, Prescott won’t truly get the opportunity to be a free agent.

The Cowboys appear committed to signing Prescott long term, but if sides can’t strike a deal by the tag deadline Prescott will get hit with the exclusive rights franchise tag. That could open the door for the Kirk Cousins escape hatch for Prescott, who could force his way to free agency in two years by signing the franchise tender and earning very expensive raises.

If Dallas finds that a long term deal won’t happen, they could be tempted to listen to trade offers to see what Prescott is worth around the league. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the five best potential fits for Prescott, beginning with the New England Patriots.

5. New England Patriots

The Patriots do have a living legend at quarterback in Tom Brady, but he is going to become a true free agent for the first time and wants to get paid top dollar. Bill Belichick may not want to commit that value to a 43-year old quarterback, no matter how legendary Brady’s accomplishments, so they could opt to pursue a trade for Prescott.

Landing a guy like Prescott would be the cleanest possible succession plan at quarterback for the Patriots, who have a strong offensive coordinator in Josh McDaniels who can get the best out of Prescott. There would be multiple top draft picks involved in a deal like this, and you can never really rule New England out of anything.
