Tyrann Mathieu is recruiting Chris Harris to Chiefs

Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Free Agency

Shortly after the Denver Broncos traded for A.J. Bouye, Tyrann Mathieu is trying to recruit Chris Harris Jr. to the division rival Kansas City Chiefs.

How would Chris Harris Jr. look in red and gold?

On Tuesday afternoon, the Denver Broncos traded for cornerback A.J. Bouye with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville was planning to release him anyway, but got some compensation for him with a 2020 fourth-round pick. With two years left on his deal, it looks like Denver has solved its cornerback issues and won’t be bringing the pending free agent Harris on a new contract.

This is when the Honey Badger came knocking.

Kansas City Chiefs star defensive back Tyrann Mathieu quote tweeted Harris’ “…lol They might have to see me now #StrapHarris” with “Always wanted to strap up with you. Could ya imagine, two of the shortest holding court every Sunday…”

Mathieu thrived in his new Kansas City home after spending a year with the Houston Texans. The former third-round pick out of LSU is one of the most versatile and explosive playmakers in any NFL secondary. However, injury concerns saw him bounce around between three franchises, finding a Super Bowl-winning home in Kansas City.

So would Harris sign up to play for the Broncos’ rival on a new deal? We’ve seen plenty of players turn heel to sign up for a rival in their free agencies before. Broncos Country might hate this, but that doesn’t mean Chiefs Kingdom wouldn’t be ecstatic about seeing Mathieu and Harris star in the same Kansas City secondary together.

Though the Chiefs are reigning Super Bowl champions, repeating is a tall task. Trying to not let complacency seep in is hard for any team on top. However, adding a veteran perennial Pro Bowler and former Super Bowl champion from a rival team has to have the Chiefs fired up about how good Steve Spagnuolo’s defense can potentially get.
