The Miami Dolphins could hold the key to the NFL Draft’s first round with three first-round picks. This Dolphins mock draft has them taking a quarterback at No. 5.

As we inch closer to the 2020 NFL Draft, we continue to get a clearer picture of which prospects NFL teams could look to add to their roster heading into the 2020 season. Rumors are flying but every team is chasing one thing, a Lombardi trophy, and success in the draft is critical to realizing that dream.

In a time-honored tradition unlike any other, I have decided to add another 100-percent accurate mock draft to the Internet archives. To save all of the FanSided commenters’ precious time, I’ve decided to include these helpful pre-written insults to hurl at me in the comments section. Feel free to copy and paste away!

  • What are you thinking??!! The [insert team] would never pick [insert player] in [insert round]!
  • Have you ever watched football in your entire life?!?!

Without further ado, here is your seven-round 2020 mock draft for the Miami Dolphins:

Justin Herbert

QB, Ducks

It is no secret that Miami has the draft capital to get any player, let alone quarterback, that they like in this class. GM Chris Grier has said as much numerous times and it still rings true. So now the question becomes…who is that guy at quarterback? Will #TankForTua become a reality? Do the recent rumors suggesting their affection for trading up to take Joe Burrow have legs? Do they view Jordan Love as the next Patrick Mahomes?

All of these questions will be answered by the end of this month but for now, I’m going with Oregon’s Justin Herbert to become the team’s next franchise quarterback.

Some of the star power of this quarterbacks class has diminished Herbert’s shine to some degree but the Dolphins have reportedly done a ton of homework on him dating back to last season, and he could certainly get the nod if they aren’t able to trade up for Burrow. As much as Tua-to-Miami rumors have happened dating back to Week 1 of last season, it seems almost too good to be true at this point.

It’s telling that the rumors of trading up would be to select Burrow over Tua, which every team in the league knows that Miami could make happen if they really want it to.

Josh Jones

OT, Cougars

With their franchise quarterback now in the fold, it’s time to protect him. While I’m sure Alabama’s Jedrick Wills is high on their board, it doesn’t seem likely he comes anywhere close to this range in the first round. In that case, the Dolphins turn to Houston’s Josh Jones.

Jones is an outstanding athlete and could wind up as one of the best tackles from the entire class. He improved quite a bit over the course of his Houston career and has a tinge of nastiness to his game that should make him a tone-setter on the Dolphins’ offense.

I think Jones probably lands in this range with many teams around the NFL struggling for help on the offensive line. He’s rawer from a technical standpoint than Wills or Georgia’s Andrew Thomas, but I like his upside and there’s a good chance Miami does as well.

J.K. Dobbins

RB, Buckeyes

Even after adding Jordan Howard in free agency, I’d be shocked if the Dolphins don’t add a running back in the first two rounds of the draft.

They’ve been connected to every running back under the sun in this class and here they land Ohio State standout J.K. Dobbins.

Dobbins has been a star since stepping onto the field in his freshman year for the Buckeyes and seems pretty likely to be one of the first few running backs off the board come draft day. He isn’t a flashy runner but knows how to churn yards and routinely saved his best performances in Ohio State’s most important games.

Georgia’s De’Andre Swift and Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor are also possibilities here but if I had to take a wild guess, I think Dobbins would be their preference between the three.
