The Detroit Lions had the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, so how did Matt Patricia’s team do with the draft class? Handing out draft grades for the Lions.

The Detroit Lions entered the 2020 NFL Draft stocked with nine total draft picks, including the No. 3 overall pick. They turned down any potential trade interest for the pick, or were unable to drum up the price needed to move off the pick. The Lions also entered the draft with extra picks in the third and fifth after the trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for Darius Slay earlier this offseason.

There was some chatter about a possible trade down but no one was willing to pay the price to move up to the No. 3. In the end, the Lions stayed at No. 3 and took the player that was mocked to them in the majority of mock drafts, Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah. This was a great pick. There was some potential they could go with defensive tackle Derrick Brown, but taking the cornerback was the best move.

Okudah fills a significant need after the trading away of Darius Slay to the Eagles. Plus, he might be the best prospect at the position this century. Ohio State is the new DBU and the track record of former Buckeyes in the NFL suggests Okudah will be in the Pro Bowl and garnering All-Pro recognition early in his career.
