Earl Thomas on TMZ Sports story: ‘Stuff like this happens’

Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas took to Instagram to speak on a TMZ Sports story about his wife holding him at gunpoint after she caught him cheating.

On Wednesday night, Baltimore Ravens free safety Earl Thomas posted a video on Instagram trying to get out ahead of a story that was scheduled to be published by TMZ Sports the following morning.

The story in question, which was published Wednesday night instead, alleges that the NFL star was held at gunpoint by his wife Nina on April 13 after she discovered he was cheating on her with another woman.

“It’s really not anybody’s business,” Thomas said in the video. “It’s pissing me off that it got out, but it’s the world we live in today. But instead of talking about us, just keep us in y’all’s prayers, and stuff like this happens. We try to live the best lives we possibly can, but sometimes it doesn’t go as planned. Just pray for us as we go through this stuff. We’re back talking. I’m seeing my kids. Just keep us in your prayers.”

According to court documents in the TMZ story, the couple got in a fight in April and Earl Thomas left the house. Logging into his Snapchat, Nina found a video of him with another woman and used the location feature to follow him.

She called up two friends and took Earl’s gun to “scare him,” discovering him and his brother Seth Thomas naked in bed with other women. Nina allegedly held the gun to his head, but thought she could not fire the weapon after taking the magazine out, unaware there was a round in the chamber.

Earl was able to wrestle the gun away from her as she hit him several times. Police described the scene when they showed up:

“We observed that a black female wearing an orange sweater with a knife in her hand, later identified as Nina Thomas, was chasing a shirtless black male, later identified as Earl Thomas, with a pistol in his hand around a vehicle.”

When the cops arrived, they drew their weapons and ordered them both on the ground, which both Earl and Nina complied with. Nina and the two women she brought with her were arrested. Nina Thomas was booked for burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence) and later bonded out.
