If LeSean McCoy is ready to hang up the cleats, doing so with the Eagles would be a beautiful full circle to his career.
It might feel like just yesterday, but it’s been 11 years since LeSean McCoy was taken in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Pittsburgh. McCoy spent the first six years of his career with Philadelphia, rushing for a total of 6,792 yards and 44 touchdowns in that span.
When Andy Reid was fired and Chip Kelly was brought in, McCoy was traded to the Bills where he spent the next four years. He then spent 2019 with the Kansas City Chiefs, who were coached by Reid, the man who drafted McCoy in Philadelphia ten years prior.
While McCoy’s time in Kansas City didn’t go quite as both he and Chiefs fans had hoped, he got a Super Bowl ring out of it and did so with the man who took him in the second round in 2009. Now, at age 31 and turning 32 in July, McCoy’s better days are surely behind him. Could he be ready to call it a career?
Not so fast apparently.
McCoy went on Good Morning Football to discuss a variety of things (including spoiling the ending of Avengers: Endgame a year ago – Not a wise decision), but one of the main topics of discussion was if he thought a 12th season was in the cards. He seemed to think so.
“I could see that,” McCoy said Wednesday on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. “On another note, since I left, you haven’t seen the 25 active in green, so you never know. I’m going to keep my options open, though. I could see myself there in Philly. Like I said, that’s home, so you never know.”
This is the kind of story we all need right now. Seeing LeSean McCoy win a Super Bowl ring with his former coach would have been a cool ending to his story, but to see him officially close out his career with the team who drafted him (and subsequently traded him) would be really neat.

McCoy might not be the player he was early in his career, but the Eagles could use a veteran like him at the position. They have a lot of youngsters currently on the depth chart such as Corey Clement, Elijah Holyfield, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott, so McCoy could help out quite a bit with that group.
If nothing else, this would be a feel good story for LeSean McCoy and Philadelphia Eagles fans.
