Will Michael Gallup prove more valuable than his ADP for 2020?

Will Michael Gallup prove to be a better value than his ADP for 2020?

The Dallas Cowboys will throw the football under new head coach Mike McCarthy. Frankly, they did a good job of that under previous head coach Jason Garrett, but the passing game is McCarthy’s bread and butter. It’s what he did leading the Green Bay Packers and it’s what he’ll do now leading “America’s Team” on fall Sundays for the foreseeable future.

Quarterback Dak Prescott has a great receiving corps to work with. He has his No. 1 target in Amari Cooper, as well as a first-round pick coming his way in the form of CeeDee Lamb. Blake Jarwin is a promising tight end and Prescott can always hand the ball of to running back Ezekiel Elliott if he gets in a bind. But how does Michael Gallup fit into all of this?

The Fantasy Footballers look at Gallup’s average draft position in fantasy football and are shocked he’s going as late as WR33 in some leagues. He’s typically coming off the board in the middle of the seventh round. Clearly, the guys see a ton of value in Gallup. Though he’s worth more than his ADP as it is, where is the right mark to take him without overdrafting the guy?

Is Michael Gallup greater than his average draft position in fantasy?

Had the Cowboys not drafted Lamb out of Oklahoma in the first round, Gallup would likely have slotted in somewhere in the late teens to early 20s with a comparable player like Calvin Ridley of the Atlanta Falcons. Now that Lamb is in the picture, Gallup isn’t getting the benefit of the doubt as the Cowboys’ third-best receiver on perception. Here’s how to take advantage of that notion.

The Cowboys are losing 80 combined targets from Randall Cobb and Jason Witten leaving in free agency, so that’s plenty for a guy like Lamb to net as a rookie. So Gallup won’t be affected by market share now the Lamb is in the wide receiver room with him. As for Cooper, though immensely talented, he comes and goes in games. He’s not the steadiest No. 1 option in the NFL.

So if Gallup stays around WR33 ADP, feel free to take him there with that selection. If you value him like a WR26 like the guys do, then take him around that draft slot. However, should you get up closer to low 20s or high teens, you may want to pump the brakes a bit. Gallup shouldn’t be overvalued for what he is as a low-end WR2 or a high-end WR3 on a good fantasy football team.
