Dak Prescott is next in line to get paid. What are the Dallas Cowboys going to pay him after watching Patrick Mahomes get $503 million on Monday.

If you turn down your TV and listen quietly, you can hear screaming. It’s coming from Dallas, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Jones saw Patrick Mahomes signing a 10-year, $503 million extension with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, destroying the quarterback market in unfathomable ways. Why does Jones care? Because his quarterback, Dak Prescott, is on the franchise tag.

In fact, Prescott and the Cowboys have until July 15 to find common ground on a long-term deal or Prescott will play the 2020 season on the tag. Afterwards, he’ll be slated for unrestricted free agency in March ’21.

What will Dak Prescott’s contract look like with the Dallas Cowboys?

Should the sides finally agree on a deal, Prescott made serious additional money by waiting for Mahomes to get his extension done. Before Mahomes signed, the records for quarterbacks were $35 million annually (Russell Wilson) and $110 million guaranteed (Jared Goff). Now? Mahomes earned $477 million guaranteed and $45 million annually once the extension begins in 2022.

While Prescott won’t approach Mahomes’ numbers — nor will anybody for at least a few years — he should easily surpass the previous benchmarks set by Wilson and Goff.

Looking at the big picture, Prescott shouldn’t struggle to and a contract worth $40 million per year. The contract length likely isn’t as long, but something in the neighborhood of six years and $240 million with $150-170 million guaranteed seems reasonable.

Just yesterday, that would have been absolutely laughable.

Jerry Jones had the opportunity to sign Prescott before Wilson, Goff and Carson Wentz did their deals last offseason. Instead, he waited while signing running back Ezekiel Elliott and wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Those decisions are going to be very, very costly.

The Cowboys are one of a handful of teams that have already expressed interest in David Njoku. Adding the dynamic tight end would make their offense scary.

David Njoku doesn’t want to play for the Cleveland Browns any longer, but there’s no guarantee the team will give in to his trade demands. If they do, look for the Dallas Cowboys to be one of a handful of NFL teams that make an offer for the talented tight end.

Any deal bringing Njoku to Dallas will almost certainly require Browns to lower their current trade demands. Reports from Cleveland believe the team wants to receive a first-round pick in any deal for the fifth-year pro. In theory, that would allow the franchise to receive equal value for their former 29th overall pick.

The Cowboys aren’t going to give up that type of draft capital for a tight end who isn’t already an established superstar. If, however, the asking price slips down to a third- or fourth-round selection, it will be easy for Jerry Jones and his front office to convince themselves that moving for Njoku makes a lot of sense.

Tight end is absolutely the team’s weakest skill position on offense. Blake Jarwin is the projected starter after the offseason departure of Jason Witten, but he only managed 31 catches for 365 yards a season ago. He is a quality in-line blocker, but he doesn’t strike fear in the hearts of opposing defensive backs.

Adding Njoku to a receiving corps that already features Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Jerry Jeudy at wide receiver would be a nightmare for opposing defenses. It would be virtually impossible for any secondary to double-cover Njoku on a regular basis. The presence of Ezekiel Elliott as a receiving threat out of the backfield would make doing so a very poor tactical choice.

The only hesitation the Cowboys should have about adding Njoku is that he won’t do anything to solve their issues on the defensive side of the ball. The team still looks to be short on edge rushers, and the departure of Byron Jones is a blow to their talent in the secondary.

Next: 5 teams that should trade for David Njoku

That might require the Cowboys to outscore opponents in 2020. They already have the talent to light up the scoreboard on a regular basis, but adding Njoku to the mix might give them a chance to form the NFL’s top offense. It might be a gamble worth taking for the Cowboys.

Everson Griffen on the Dallas Cowboys ensures they are a playoff team.

Everson Griffen is still waiting to be signed by a new NFL team.

The four-time Pro Bowl defensive end of the Minnesota Vikings spent the 10 years in the Twin Cities, becoming one of the best players on their defense. Griffen put together a Hall of Very Good career in Minneapolis, but will have to suit up for someone else in his early 30s if he wants to achieve Canton enshrinement. One team that should be all-in on him is the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas may already have a Pro Bowl pass-rusher of its own in DeMarcus Lawrence, but America’s Team still needs make up for losing Robert Quinn to the Chicago Bears in his NFL free agency. That’s not to say Dallas hasn’t added plenty of excellent players to its defensive line. It has in the form of Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe, as well as drafting Bradlee Anae and Neville Gallimore.

However, it feels like the Cowboys are banking heavily on Aldon Smith returning to San Francisco 49ers form half-a-decade after the fact. Though we should hope Smith’s troubled past is firmly behind him, we’ve seen Griffen be a more impactful player on a championship-caliber team considerably more recently in Minnesota. Dallas has its shot to land Griffen this offseason.

Here’s why defensive end Everson Griffen needs to be a Dallas Cowboy, baby!

Again, the Cowboys aren’t looking for a cornerstone pass-rusher right now. At his peak, Griffen certainly was that for the Vikings. However, he is simply overqualified to play off Lawrence, rookie Anae and hopefully Smith in the Dallas pass rush. It’ll be a one-year deal, but the Cowboys have roughly $10.5 million to work with this offseason. It’s not a ton of cash, but it’s enough here.

Not only will it be a one-and-done sort of deal with Griffen in Dallas, but the dollar will go further in a state with no income tax. What is the best part of Griffen potentially joining up with the Cowboys is he will be the catalyst to ensure America’s Team will be in the postseason in 2020. His signing would ensure us Dallas will be without question a top-seven team in the NFC.

Though it remains to be seen if the Cowboys are better than the arch rival Philadelphia Eagles, you can theoretically pencil in Dallas as one of three Wild Card teams in the conference. If Dallas can’t beat out the Eagles for divisional supremacy, they’ll be competing with the likes of the Arizona Cardinals, the Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears for that last wild card spot.

Next: These 5 NFL teams are going to have the No. 1 overall pick soon

Griffen doesn’t need to have a 10-sack campaign to make a signing with the Cowboys worth while. His persistent pressure will open up opportunities for his potential Dallas teammates to make plays. If Dallas has a top-tier pass rush this fall, the roster just might be good enough to orchestrate a deep postseason run in the NFC. Getting to a conference title bout would be sweet.

If Griffen joins the Cowboys, Dallas will be a lock for the NFC playoffs in 2020.

Ezekiel Elliott was not high on a recent live stream, despite what people initially thought.

It hasn’t been the best of months for Ezekiel Elliott. While he’s no stranger to offseason headlines, the star Dallas Cowboys running back has tested positive for the coronavirus, and is being sued for millions after his pool cleaner claimed his dogs attacked her.

Now, some more news has arrived for Elliott and it’s not great whatsoever. The former Ohio State back was on a live stream, but forgot to end things. That would be the only reason to explain why he let the entire world know he was… high?

Ezekiel Elliott wasn’t high on his Twitch stream, that’s not what ‘faded’ means

As you can see in the video above, Elliott said live on camera, “Oh Bro I’m low key faded bro. Oh no, I didn’t even end my stream yet.” This was taken by some to mean that he was high

Whatever he was referring to it was likely more along the lines of exhaustion — not under the influence of a drug. Zeke took to Twitter to clear the air, so to speak.

As for how he’s feeling with the season approaching, there’s nothing faded about what he’ll be bringing to the field.

Last week, Elliott said he was feeling good, but had to wait a little bit longer to work out and prepare for the upcoming football season. The Cowboys will need him if they want to try and go on another deep run in the playoffs. Dak Prescott’s contract drama seems to be subsiding for at least the time being, and new head coach Mike McCarthy is attempting to prove he can create a winner without Aaron Rodgers.

Here’s how the Cowboys can fit Jadeveon Clowney under the cap.

The Dallas Cowboys made several high-profile additions to their defensive line this offseason, most notably in the form of Aldon Smith. Still, Smith on his own doesn’t replace Robert Quinn, who signed with the Chicago Bears, especially since the former All-Pro hasn’t played in the NFL since 2015.

Jadeveon Clowney, who’s been seeking a long-term contract to no avail, could finally be forced to reel in his expectations, especially if he prefers a deal in Dallas. The Cowboys cap situation doesn’t lend itself well to big-time acquisitions in free agency, especially with a Dak Prescott extension waiting in the wings and a potential Jamal Adams trade (and subsequent extension). Yet, per Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network, the Cowboys are among Clowney’s preferred destinations.

Jadeveon Clowney is interested in Dallas, but is a move a real possibility?

The Cowboys have an estimated $10 million in cap room per Spotrac, and as things stand that is not enough to get a meeting with Clowney, who has turned down a short-term offer from the Cleveland Browns. Those short-term propositions offered Clowney the immediate return of a one-year offer but would’ve forced him to prove himself in the long-term, a request that’s rather understandable given his injury history.

But as the top player at a position of need on the market, Clowney has the clout and patience to sit out until whenever necessary. From the Cowboys perspective, any contract would have to come with less immediate return.

Dallas could re-work the contract of, say, Zack Martin or Ezekiel Elliott, to provide more immediate cap flexibility, but the odds of their overall financial flexibility rising above $15 million in 2020 is slim.

Next offseason, however, Dallas has far less financial commitment on the books, with upwards of $36 million in space. This, of course, doesn’t factor in Prescott’s looming extension, but in this best-case scenario mentality, Jerry Jones and his front office staff can figure out the cap gymnastics later, or choose to move on from Prescott if they can’t agree on a long-term deal. Essentially, a long-term or intermediate offer isn’t out of the question.

Clowney played most of last season injured and reportedly underwent offseason surgery for a core muscle issue. That fact, paired with some inconsistency in terms of quarterback pressures and sack numbers, are scaring teams away from a long-term deal despite his overall dominance when at his best. And the thought of pairing him with Demarcus Lawrence has to be enticing for a team in need of help on their pass rush.

If the Cowboys choose to buy in, they have the money, and more importantly financial flexibility, to make him the next defense star in Dallas.

Jamal Adams wants to be a Dallas Cowboy, and Jerry Jones should stop at no bounds to acquire him.

The greatest trade commodity in the NFL at this very moment is New York Jets safety Jamal Adams.

Although, to New York general manager Joe Douglas’ credit, he has not given in to Adams’ demands yet, even insisting that the Jets safety will remain under contract in green and white for the 2020 season.

As much as Douglas may insist that’s the case, it’s tough to buy it when Adams is willing to admit a random man at the grocery store he’s vying for a move to the Lone Star state.

Douglas’ negotiating ploy will keep the demands for a player of Adams’ services high, so much so he could be willing to ask for one of the Cowboys’ premiere assets in return even while he’s playing under a long-term contract.

According to Tony Pauline of The Draft Network, the Jets have eyes for star guard La’el Collins.

The Cowboys should make a Jamal Adams trade happen, even if it costs them La’el Collins.

Dealing a player of La’el Collins’ caliber would make such a trade far easier for the Cowboys, as they’d be able to keep much of their 2021 NFL Draft capital. Collins signed a five-year contract extension in 2019 which pays him $10 million per season.

Given his production since then, it’s an absolute bargain. Adams, meanwhile, needs a contract extension after the 2021 season, and is demanding so beforehand. Trading Collins would free up significant cash to make an extension attainable for the LSU product.

Just last season, Collins allowed just two sacks and committed only four penalties, despite playing 1,000 snaps, per PFF. Such numbers are unheard of, and perhaps taken for granted by the brass of Dallas’ front office.

The star-power gained from acquiring Adams surpasses that of an offensive lineman, and if we know anything about Jones, dealing for big names is his forte, despite his recent affinity for the offensive line through the NFL Draft.

Adams would be a clear upgrade over Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Jeff Heath. Dallas lost Byron Jones this offseason, and without sufficient cover in the secondary, will be exposed in the NFC. Meanwhile, they could replace Collins with moderate success with Connor Williams, who played tackle in college.

Losing a player of Collins’ caliber is not easy, but Dallas’ needs in the secondary are great enough to make this move, especially when it’s not paired with a first and third-round pick, which was the previous asking price for Adams.

Next: Here’s what a Jamal Adams trade with the Cowboys could look like

Would Dez Bryant be a good fit in the San Francisco 49ers’ offense?

Aren’t the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers supposed to hate each other?

Back in the 1990s, these two teams used to duke it out for NFC supremacy. Whoever played better during the given NFL season usually wound up representing their conference in the Super Bowl. Flash forward to 2020 and a pair of offensive players from the defending NFC Champions are looking at adding former Cowboy standout wide receiver Dez Bryant into the fold.

On June 21, 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne tweeted at both Bryant and the 49ers’ official account a pair of eyeball emojis. Bourne’s teammate in running back Raheem Mostert replied to all three accounts with “Eww weee that’ll be fun!” Bryant quote tweeted Bourne’s original message just to let everyone on Twitter know he saw what’s up.

Are we ready to see Dez Bryant play for the San Francisco 49ers in 2020?

Bryant made be a three-time Pro Bowler and a First-Team All-Pro in 2014, but hasn’t played in an NFL game since he was a member of the 2017 Cowboys. Midway through the 2018 season, Bryant signed on with the New Orleans Saints, but ruptured his Achilles tendon and hasn’t been on a professional football field since. After spending 2019 out of football, is he ready to be back?

Well, Bryant is on the wrong side of 30, as 2020 will be his age-31 season. He was never an adept route runner at any point of his Dallas career, but he was a spectacular player for a while there with the Cowboys and collegiately for the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12. While one could argue he still has something left in the football tank, he would have to go to the right situation.

One thing that does make the 49ers an intriguing fit for him is they are in need of any semblance of dynamism in the receiving game. Emmanuel Sanders was clearly just a rental, as he signed with the Saints after only a playing a few games with the 49ers after being traded over from the Denver Broncos.

Next: 5 NFL players who will fall off a cliff in 2020 season

The other interesting wrinkle here is the 49ers will also be down promising second-year pro Deebo Samuel at least for the early part of the season. He broke his foot this summer, and now the 49ers are in dire need of anything close to a No. 1 receiver. Bryant used to be, so that’s why guys like Bourne and Mostert are trying to recruit him to the Bay Area.

If Bryant does get back into the NFL, it just might be with a team like San Francisco.

Ezekiel Elliott’s quarantine afro is something else and we can’t look away.

Like many of us, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been in isolation.

The former No. 4 overall pick out of The Ohio State University has been the bell-cow back for America’s Team for the last four seasons. When he’s at his best, Elliott is the best running back in football. Unfortunately, this offseason has not gone according to plan for any of us, especially Elliott.

Just last week, news got at that Elliott had come down with the coronavirus. So he had to go into quarantine for two weeks until his symptoms completely subsided. He spoke with members of the Cowboys media about how he’s feeling physically via webcast on Tuesday afternoon. While he says he’s feeling good, all we could notice was how magnificent the new hairstyle was rocking looked.

Simply put, the locks were luscious.

Check out Ezekiel Elliott’s crazy quarantine afro and not be amazed by it.

Even in quarantine, Elliott is still handing the Michigan Wolverines losses. It’s quite a skill to have such an incredible troll. It has to come from the power of that afro. To be fair, Elliott has worn a long beard and has had longer hair for the last year or so. He’s added nose rings to his since of style since coming out of Ohio State. Still, we have to appreciate his quarantine hair game.

Some of us have taken a pair of buzzers or scissors to our noggins. Others are embracing their flow-turned-mullets. There are those whose natural hair color is starting to take over the rest of their mane. Either way, we’re all in this ridiculous haircut stage of our lives together. Let’s just hope someone lives you enough to not let an adult bowl cut fly. That’s not good for anybody.

Next: 5 NFL players who will fall off a cliff in 2020 season

Sports will be back in our lives at some point, as Elliott and the Cowboys will fight for NFC East supremacy vs. the New York Giants, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins. Dallas’ toughest competition will likely be the Eagles this year, but the biggest question of all is if Elliott will let that ‘fro of his grow until America’s Team wins another Lombardi Trophy? Let’s hope so.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix ran into a bear on an electric scooter, and his response was exactly what it should have been.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix may terrify wide receivers heading across the middle, but one video should change all of that. The Dallas Cowboys safety was riding his electric scooter through a side street, and came across a disinterested opponent.

Clinton-Dix is familiar with Bears — he used to play for their clan in Chicago. However, he was clearly unfamiliar with their type in the wild. On Monday night around 8:45 p.m., Clinton-Dix was hilariously caught on a security camera scooting away as quickly as humanly possible after running into a mama bear and her cub.

Cowboys safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix wanted nothing to do with two bears he ran into on the street.

Clinton-Dix is lucky here on two counts: First, mama Bear did not see him on time. The two mammals were preoccupied with wondering the backstreets in search of food. Evidently, the 27-year-old Clinton-Dix didn’t qualify as such.

Second, Clinton-Dix had a scooter! As goofy as it looks on camera, Clinton-Dix was able to remove himself from danger at a quicker pace than his usual foot-speed, even as an NFL player who once ran a 4.5 40-yard dash, by ghosting his scooter in the direction of the bears.

“I play D # gotta be ready to go,” Clinton-Dix said of the incident. “A lil high on my flip turn but the drive was there. I ain’t know how many was over there.”

On second look, that doesn’t seem intentional. And as much as Clinton-Dix can try and play this off as smooth, he reacted as any of us would — startled, and afraid for our lives.

The Alabama product signed with Dallas on a one-year contract worth just under $4 million this offseason. He’d rather not risk that money thanks to a Bear attack.

Dak Prescott may not have a contract extension, but he’s locked in and ready to go.

Dallas Cowboys fans feeling profound Joan Didion-esque dread about Dak Prescott’s future in the Metroplex were surely only modestly buoyed by news that the quarterback would sign his franchise tender Monday. After all, it simply meant that he was under contract for 2020, kicking the free agency can down the road to next offseason if the two sides can’t agree to a multi-year deal by the NFL’s July 15 deadline.

Fortunately, all those in north Texas who spent all afternoon breathing into a paper bag need to log on to the ol’ Instagram and pay Dak a visit. In his latest post, he doesn’t exactly look like someone who is only ambiguously committed to the Cowboys.

After signing his franchise tender with Dallas, Dak Prescott posted an Instagram photo depicting himself in an impeccable cowboy hat

This is actually freaking adorable. It’s uncut, raw Dallas, but without the cringe levels of Dirk Notwitzki piggybacking on Mark Cuban in Sports Illustrated. Everybody wins!

Prescott still very much needs a contract extension, and those negotiations (whenever they actually resume) are sure to be a source of anxiety across Cowboys Nation. However, disgruntlement can strike at any time, even for guys who are very much still under contract — Jamal Adams, come on down! — and such a development would be especially catastrophic were it to strike a franchise quarterback.

And that’s not at risk of happening now. Look at that photo again. This man doesn’t have one foot out the door. He’s committed to the cause.

If you got to toss bombs to Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup behind that offensive line, you would be too.

Dak Prescott has signed his franchise tender, a source confirmed. He’s expected to be at camp. The Cowboys and Prescott have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal. If one isn’t finalized by then, Dak will play the 2020 season under a fully-guaranteed $31.4 million contract

— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) June 22, 2020

No matter what happens the rest of the way, the 2020 season is an utterly critical one for the future of the Cowboys. Lowballing Prescott stands to push him out the door, but overpaying him in comparison to the rest of the NFL quarterback landscape ruins the team’s ability to improve its top-to-bottom quality in the quest for NFC supremacy.

At the very least, Dak is going about his business in good faith. In such fraught times as these, that peace of mind is worth its weight in gold.
